Got Peeling Paint?? Look No Further!!

Maybe I missed it but, how much did you use to put 2 coats on, a gallon or 2? And I have seen several colors of monstaliner out there, does it just tint like paint?? I am kinda partial to my old emerald green color and that would prevent having to jamb everything...

edit: so... I should have looked further down their page I guess. Now I see the tint colors and I'm liking the Envy Green. Wonder how close it is to the emerald green??

I attempted to have the Evergreen Pearl matched.......it didnt go so well. Now, I did not use the shopline PPG that is recommended, since i consulted a friend who owns a body shop, and his sentiment was "eh, its all the same." It ended up being more of a candy, and was not opaque. The other issue i ran into was a strange booger type problem. As the monstaliner cured, i had more of these weird areas pop up in the coating. I did a two tone to match the grey/green combo of the 4runner, and their grey worked awesome. I ordered more Monstaliner, and will be using their green the second time around.

Good to know. Also I can't seem to find any info on spraying it, does it have to be thinned or does the undercoating gun spray it the same mix as you would roll it?

I sprayed on using a shutz undercoating gun. Mixing is very similar, just added a few ounces of acetone to thin it out a little.

This makes me want to repaint mine, though I'll probably stick with the same single stage flat acrylic enamel that I used before, but in white.

I achieved a tight uniform texture on mine just by being an idiot with gun settings on the first coat, so I might as well keep the party going. I'm sure this is ten times tougher than the automotive paint I used, but Monstaliner is like 3+ times the cost and the texture....a little much? Rig as a whole looks badass tho

I mean, at 3x the cost its still only $300. The cost of materials is negligible with any paint job. The time or cost of labor is what really matters.

It looks so good. Does it hold in dirt when it gets muddy? Hard to spray clean?

Yeah the nice thing about the textured coat is that you won't see any dings or dents at all, not unless you run into a tree or something. Totally hides it all!

Wow! That white looks great. I wouldn't feel bad at all about buying a Toyota with a dead white paint job and doing a refresh with ML. That looks very resilient.

You can use a PPG tint to make it whatever color you like. The only thing I'm unsure of is whether you can add metallic flakes. I'm not sure how they'd mix up, and show in the finished product. Be a guinea pig!

Thats a great look! I'll definitely keep this in mind when my cc goes. Looks great and hides imperfections, i would think. Looks relatively simple, awesome job!

Right? Hahaha... if I was thinking about that, I might just test it out on something other than my rig before blasting away to a flakes abrasive finish. lol. I gather he doesn't use it that much, but I wonder how the driver side entry has up to feet going in and out. If nothing else, having some extra protection on the rockers might be nice.

Anybody use it for rock sliders? That might be more of a pain to touch up though.

Okay, I'm interested in this.....but....what about if you need to strip it off to weld up sheetmetal that's been coated in ML? For now, I still have the full top....but one day I may cut the top off behind the rear seats and bob the "bed" area. If it was covered in ML....I'm thinking it would be a royal PITA to strip down far enough to weld the already very thin skin on these trucks. Will a wire wheel on an angle grinder peel this stuff off or not? Is there a chemical peel? What options exist for stripping it?

How did you get your rear door handles out and all the stuff off the rear hatch? Took me forever to get my front handle out and I couldn't even figure out how to do the rear.
