Grease gun?

I just use the spray stuff from the auto store. CRC I think. You are just talking about door latches and hinges, the throttle linkage, seat tracks, hood latches, etc., right? There is no specific spec that I have ever seen. You could use out of a tube or gun, too, for these applications. It's all good.

Don't use the white lithium grease for the hinges. Go by Lowes and get the Dupont Teflon Lube. It works much better and doesn't leave a greasy mess. I lubed up all the hinges at my house with it 2 years ago and not a squeek. I lubed a door at work with some White lithium and it was squeaking within the week.

dont buy a pneumatic one, they are junk. I got this one on amazon, Lincoln 1147 Grease Gun with Hose : Amazon.com : Automotive good name brand gun, decent price. Pistol grips are good because sometimes you have to hold the hose on the zerk fitting, tough to do with a lever. But I am happy with mine. I use to use the mobile 1 syn grease, but it does seperate and leaked out of my old gun. Now I just buy the dyno grease.

How do you use that thing (lever with hose)? Don't you need another hand? I have a lever with pipe and a pistol with hose, but I don't get how you keep the hose on the zerk and work the lever.

I bought this to product to get into tight areas using the rubber whip hose. The dispensing fitting would move all over the place and I had to hold it in place and then try to use the lever on the grease gun. The pistol grip might have been a better choice.

As I said it can be tough, I usually lay the gun on the underside of the runner, or up against the drive shaft, or ground, or whatever an pump against whatever its laying against. Holding the hose on with the other hand. The pistol guns work great but for what ever reason kill my hand pumping that pistol grip, that's why I went back to a lever. That brand also makes the pistol type....for about $40. IMO, if you can afford it, buy a decent brand, the cheaper ones leak, and can cross thread easily when changing tubes.

I admit it's a hand workout by the time you are done with the pistol. I play tennis, squash and paddle tennis, so I consider the hand workout a good thing. I got mine at NAPA on sale in 1999; no problems so far.

I just did this last night, greased all my ujoints and stuff. It's worth the time to just wait on a friend that can help you do it. All he has to do is pump the gun. Otherwise, it's a PITA to do it by yourself, but still manageable.

I've ended up having to get 3 grease guns, one for the Mobil 1 synthetic grease, one for the moly grease, and another for low temp that I use on my snowmobile stuff. Sucked having to fork out for them all, but better than switching grease every time.
