Greasing cv boots?

I was under my truck today doing a visual inspection.
When I was checking the cv boots I thought about how they will wear out faster once its lifted.
Feeling the stiff rubber I was thinking what if I placed grease on the contact points to reduce friction and maybe help prolong the life of the boot.
The only down side I can really see to this is if sand and dirt get stuck to the grease and maybe cause more harm then good.

What you guys think, any one try this?

Very likely you'll have to reboot both inner boots. Mine began leaking the next day after lift went on. Put new grease in an tightened up and boots on both sides tore within two months. Both replaced and no problems now.

You running a diff drop?

I have the diff drop and mine leaked the next day after the lift. I think my issue is I didn't lower the front end soon enough. I had to drive home, about 40 miles, with it about 3" and of course, mine have 167k, so that may have something to do with it as well.

OP: As you suspected, you don't want grease on the outside of the boot where the fins contact because it will collect dust and dirt and provide an abrasive in the contact area for the boots to wear even faster.

A few people who have un-clamped the small end of the inner boot and pulled it out more to reduce fin contact. That would be a more appropriate fix IMHO, but doing it on a boot with 167k will probably just cause a tear.

You can re-boot if you want but is it really worth your time? What I did was just run them torn until I couldn't stand the greasy mess they were throwing everywhere, then replaced the whole axles with Napa MaxDrive units and kept the old ones to reboot some time as spares.

I've rebooted CVs before, its messy but not too bad.
Doing it twice with in 2days-2months of doing the lift doesn't make sense, but at the same time I will not be in the mood to reboot the CVs during the install, and I should have a spear set of axles for when I start wheeling harder.
Ill do some research for after market axles and probably order up a pair.
