Great Range: On my 09 V6. Love it.
I assume that is all down hill with the engine off.
I've been playing around with my V8 a little bit. Some full throttle long freeway ramps, leaving it in "4" around town. You are right about that killing the mileage. Got 13 point something on the last tank.
Of course my girlfriend's Acura RL got 10 mpg on the last 20 gallon tank, her problem is just the opposite. A tank of gas lasts all month, short trips, going only to a few local spots every day or two.
I am always skeptical of claims of 20+mpgs in 4 runners. I average about 14 with 90% city driving where my average speed is about 24 mph. I have been keeping very detailed records of my fuel consumption and have averaged 14.7 over the past 6 month. The best I have had was 17 on a trip with highway driving. I think a lot of people making outrageous claims are fudging the numbers. It is easy to cheat your mileage when you fill it to the point that it is over flowing one tank then the next stop it at the first cut off. I did that once while tracking and got 18 on one fill up then 12 the next.
I would love for someone claiming 20+ to show me real detailed proof that they can get that kind of mileage over and over.
I know the guage is not the best, but I am up 20%
I do the hypermile method. It really works.
And the gauge can be off by as much as 20% or higher. The ONLY accurate way is to fill up and divide the number of miles driven by the number of gallons you added. Do this several times for a more accurate reading. It's amazing the number of people who rely on digital readout to determine their gas mileage.
Hypermilling is not only DANGEROUS...but in MOST states it's illegal.
