Ask and you shall receive! This is most of the post I made to the "Real MPG" thread you started a few weeks back.
Ahhhhaaaaaa!!! But you don't ALWAYS get 20+ MPG so that doesn't count!!! :rockthrow:

I am always skeptical of claims of 20+mpgs in 4 runners. I average about 14 with 90% city driving where my average speed is about 24 mph. I have been keeping very detailed records of my fuel consumption and have averaged 14.7 over the past 6 month. The best I have had was 17 on a trip with highway driving. I think a lot of people making outrageous claims are fudging the numbers. It is easy to cheat your mileage when you fill it to the point that it is over flowing one tank then the next stop it at the first cut off. I did that once while tracking and got 18 on one fill up then 12 the next.
I would love for someone claiming 20+ to show me real detailed proof that they can get that kind of mileage over and over.
Sungod, you must have something wrong or you have a lead foot. I get 21.6 MPG around town all the time with a V6 and the A/C always on. I get 28 MPG going West on the freeway towards Phoenix and 26 coming back the other way since it's up hill more. When I get off the freeway though and have to stop at all the red lights each one makes the mileage fall by 0.1 MPG so it drops rapidly back to 21!
I've got to ask how you're getting way above and beyond what we usually see these rigs get? What version runner? What speed do you cruise at? What method are you using to track MPG? What things have been modified (tires, rims, etc.)
It's simple: he's full of ****. I filled up today after going 415 miles and it took 19.4 gallons, so 21.4 mpg. My a/c was on 90% of that time and about 150 miles were on the highway, the rest on secondary roads.
I doubt those kind of results as well but I know that I don't know everything and might still be in the market to learn something new so I'm willing to give they guy a hearing. Perhaps in doing so he might realize he's not calculating things correctly, making some incorrect assumptions, etc.
21.4 MPG is in line with what I get on the highway at 65 MPH mixed with a bit of other driving.
if he is strictly using the DIC I believe he may be telling the inaccurate truth so to speak. While my DIC is fairly accurate I can sway it if I try. I made around a 100 mile round trip driving down rural two lane highways averaging a speed of 55mph and my DIC showed 25mpg for this round trip.
I know I wasn't getting this mileage but I never did any hand calculations against that tank to see what I was actually getting.
That's why I said "inaccurate truth" because no telling how accurate it really is. But if that's what he based that 28mpg claim off of I can see him telling what he believes is the truth.
cant believe they still used that cheesy HVAC control panel in 2009. 3 manual dials and a couple of buttons, please. This looks like a bad BMW I-drive x3. It may work, but manual rotary control would be better looking and more reliable.
