GreenbowCounty's build up!

Looking great! Let me know when you tackle the lbjs and tie rods. I will try to roll over bc I need to do this to mine eventually and would love a chance to learn hands on.

DizzyDoyle John the plan is to knock it all out at toyo Steve's shop in Cumming. Keep you posted!

GreenbowCounty, I'd like to get in on that too. My lower ball joints finally showed up so I need to install mine too.

Awning installed

Big thanks to URBAN ASSAULT for fabbing up tabs and doing some welding to get my JDM awning installed on my Whitson carrier. Looks better than I had hoped. Now to get some field shots. Build is coming along slowly. Next is JDM rear tire carrier. Need to do a better job on this build thread...

Really wish I took advantage of the massive selection of Japanese model parts and junk yards available when I was stationed in Okinawa Japan. Granted back then I never thought I'd have a 4Runner. (Hilux Surf) I got to know where are you finding these? Specifically the rear hatch, gotta get me one of those. Would love the factory swing out tire carrier as well. Good luck on your swing out install!

Preciate it

Troybylt much of it I got off yahoo auctions. Occasional junkyard trips too. Tailgate was actually under $300 and carrier I got from a forum member in Canada. You can still use yahoo auctions from the States bit you'll have to have a proxy bidder. Shipping unfortunately is what might get you at this point.

Great build! I like the surf decal on the sides.

Did you cut-off the top part of the TJM bull bar? I also bough one of those for the hilux LN 106 my dad owns for $80 back in 2000. I don't like how the upper part is built on that TJm and was thinking how to cut it off. You gave me the idea... thanks!!!

follow up

nissanh Yeh, ended up cutting off the top of the TJM. I recently sold it for $50to a local forum member and after driving around without a bumper took the one off of my donor truck and put it on. The plan is to put on some front and rears soon though and the current bumper is going to the owner of my sold donor. You can probably do a much better cut than i did but still I did like it better without the top.

Tire carrier install

Been a while since last update. Got pics this afternoon from ACC, local company specializing in Yota trucks and Lexus. Excited about picking up the truck tomorrow and will have more pics up of the carrier and tire cover once I put my spare on. Big thanks IanB who sold me the carrier even though I lost the two rubber grommets for the thing. :pout: Also big thanks to the local shop ACC for getting this done. :car:

Did you have the reinforcement pieces for the D pillar? Did you fab your own brackets?

I did a retro on my FJ80 and was lucky to have the D pillar pieces to make it clean and OEM.

Looking real good. Basically all your missing us the diesel/turbo motor!

OMG, I'm super jelly! You have all the cool stuff! I just got my FMU, gotta tackle the wiring. I REALLY want a fender mirror, and that Surf Sport grille is teh secks!:flypig: Really great rig man.

It's deja vu all over again...

With your 285's, you might wanna consider modifying the carrier and raise up the tire mount box much like what I did. This way the tire doesn't hang low thus giving you better departure clearance if you're into wheeling. Just my experience!

Looking good, James.

Yeh, they put a reinforcement plate and brackets in the D pillar; they've done a couple of these here in Atlanta. Did FoneRunner 's install too. Big thanks man, a diesel turbo would be nice but then I'd have to use the SC I got for a paper weight or something:biggrin1:

Thanks man, still got a ways to go! plan on going back to the Surf Sport grille shortly. I plastied it and like the look. FMU is the stuff too btw; still got wire up to my ABS and temp sensor though:(

Ervin big thanks man, it's got a ways to go before it looks like yours so bear with me; picked up a 6" led bar which I plan to attach above the license plate bar same as you but will likely opt for piaas like you did due to the depth of the bar. after pining through your build for hours I gotta say it gets better every time. The plan is to modify and raise just like you did. I've got the oem tire cover so until I modify I'll sport it on my spare, hopefully have some pics up this weekend. Plan to go from 285s to 315s in the future so raising and modifying is a must.

Of you mind me asking, how much did you pickup the carrier from Ian?

that is one sweet SURF!!!!! wish I could have gotten that front TJM Bumper though!

Thanks man, it's a work in progress but I'm proud of how far it's come. I actually sold it locally to southernrunner because I'm planning to get something new in the near future. Talk to him, he might give you a better deal than I gave him.
