Its going well, next is getting the body back on and wiring from there. After getting it back down just a matter of wrapping things up with bumpers and other handful of items

Aux cabin filter and Optitron did arrive though. Since I can't use it I plan to install it on a local truck, catalog and store or sell. This is a pic of the aux unit, had a charcoal filter and regular filter. Also has four LEDs for lighting. Will require some fabbing but looking forward to the install.
How far are you from Jefferson? That's where we usually stay and drive to Commerce. If you don't go I'd still like to see what you have done so far. We'll be up there for a few days since we're going to the dragon again.

John how are you man? The bulk of the work is done so he's working on some wiring so hopefully truck will be back soon. He'd been busy with other stuff so couldn't work on it much but he's definitely working to get it back.
In the meantime I keep stockpiling parts and finalizing plans for my two week ExPo in August.
Been a while since updating this but picked up the truck on Saturday (11/28) from [MENTION=59542]Singtoe[/MENTION]. To his credit Rob went above and beyond my expectations for the V8 Conversion addressing a number of items and ensuring that I didn’t pull off before understanding fully what all went into the swap and to contact him with any items. I got to see his build in person as well and hear more about his upcoming V8 Supercharger install. One of the sharpest people I’ve met with his approach and thinking on these type mods.
Initial impressions of the swap: It’s fast! As. Hell! The donor Tundra was geared at 3.91 and the 4Runner is a 4.30 so it packs power. Low end torque is vastly increased, from standstill the drivetrain spins the 33” Load E Kumhos with no effort and the Tundra Brake upgrade stops this thing with ease. I drove roughly 463 miles back with my 4Runner transmission, transfer case and Tundra TRD wheels loaded in the back and was very impressed with the takeoff power the VVT-i has under load and lift. The drive by wire system has a steep learning curve and the accelerator is mounted in closer to the driver, (maybe 2” forward) so it makes things interesting when you first start driving and are wondering where’s the brakes?! The swap itself is clean; looking under the hood the setup looks stock. I no longer have a j shifter for the variable transmission, just an opening where it used to be. The plan is to use this to mount a plate for switches at some point. On long hills under load no sudden upshifts to keep up with speed. Plenty of long uphills on the route so I was very impressed with this. There is a slight shudder when it downshifts after you’ve been on the gas but nothing jarring. At some point I’ll get it dynoed but will have to wait till I get the fuel issue fixed.
Open Items on swap:
1. Running rich but I’m getting this addressed on Friday
2. 4LO switch is non-functional; will replace
3. Cruise control is not functioning currently. Rob thinks a loose wire so I’ll be tracing and reconnecting.
L to R: 4Hi switch, 4Lo switch. Grey wire mod on the E-Locker. Switched my mirror switch with a retractable mirror switch so this switch is not active.
JDM Aux in cabin air filter install. Plugs in to existing connector without issue. 4 bulbs rather than one and both fan and filter activate when engine is running.
Preciate it! The best part is that the end is almost here (April 2016 estimate). Few maintenance items but once done the remaining mods will get done (315s, wheels, bumpers, paint, lights, etc.). Keeping it low key but definitely excited about the truck and what it will look like soon.
Was planning to do that early Sunday morning on a not so busy stretch of highway close to home but the kid wasn't having it. Still working on this sleep thing:doh: better yet staying asleep.
Took the truck in to ACC Garage here in Atlanta on Friday to get to the bottom of the running rich item. Plugged the OBD and appears that at idle and open truck is burning more fuel (35% on sensor 1 and 39% sensor 2) than it should. For the moment it appears to the be the air intake and MAF sensor setup. Started searching for a replacement lid from an 06-09 GX and V8 4Runner.
All these guys do is Toyota trucks and they do a lot of them. Since moving to a larger location they are closer to me which has me thinking that between work, kid and everything else I've decided to have them do most of what's left on the truck. This includes, customize bumpers, painting, etc.
Few updates and pics:
Steering shaft is contacting the headers creating what feels like no power steering. Will be knocking this out soon.
A while back purchased an 95 Prado Accessory Meter or Clinometer (Japan) and have been looking forward to installing. Put out a feeler on the Japanese Hilux Surf FB page and the Hilux Surf FB page to see if anyone had attempted but came up empty. In addition to the FMU items it also has a pitch and roll display and a few other items. I figured it'd wire up much like the Field Monitor Unit but rather than guessing what went where I searched for and purchased off eBay a 95 Prado series EWD and it detailed everything. With wiring behind me (piggybacking mostly off of the FMU) the main thing will be where and how to place.

The plan is to install on the dash over the AC vents and between passenger airbag and drive gauges so working on a mod to accompany this. Plan is to install a Valentine One and HAM in conjunction with this. Will do a proper writeup on this.
More pics of the in cabin air filter and fan unit. No plans to LED this cause I really like the appeal of the four halogen bulbs. Filter is needing replacement so I'll be looking for something soon. This was an easy install and plugged right up to the existing connection. Came with a ground and all in all was a cinch to knock out.
Also found my long lost tire carrier caps which I thought I'd lost or thrown away. Reaching out to a vendor in the UK they wanted roughly a $100 a piece but one day cleaning the garage I stumbled upon them. Thanks @ianb
Will need to come up with a way to mount this (or not) to a 35" rear.
Once Christmas is behind me the plan is to ramp things up and get this completed but still very happy with all progress so far. Cheers!:reddance:

It's a talisman (ohmamori= to protect) from a shrine that was close to where I lived for a while when I was in Japan. This one is protection while driving and so far so good. You get them for different purposes: driving, school, business success, etc. You never have two from two for the same thing though or supposedly they fight each other. :boxing::boxing:
Purchased off eBay a Lexus GX intake lid from an 06. The current air intake is off of an 03 V8 4Runner and the MAF sensors were slightly different so Rob modded this one to accompany the smaller, later model MAF from the Tundra. The GX lid should switch out without incident and already has a MAF sensor attached so after wiping the code this should fix the running rich issue.
As of today still able to get it in the garage but i anticipate that changing soon. Needs a wash and detail but that will have to wait. Sticking with the two tone but rather than the Topaz Metallic (K87 color code) on the cladding the plan is a two-tone Black/Bronze to highlight the SURF stickers. I went back and forth for a while between B/B or all Black and think the finished product will show it was the right choice:bowl:. Thanks [MENTION=108410]RockenAlex[/MENTION] . Red is an accent color mainly for the Sports Grill which itself needs some attention.
The few who have seen it in person so far have all agreed the work looks stock; like it rolled off the floor with this setup. All in all I have to admit I like how it's evolved since day one.
