Good Evening All - I decided to stop lurking and actually register!

I am the proud owner of a black 2008 SR5, practically new with 57K miles... Her name is Nymeria the Rum Runner. She is my first SUV, and my first departure outside of the Honda family. I researched the heck outta the 4Runners before making my purchase, and I'm very excited to learn more. Back in the day I used to hook up Hondas... I had a few Integras, a Prelude, RSX... you get the idea. This will be my first "truck" and I'm looking forward to customizing her a bit to make her my own.

My first major purchase will be tires... I'm looking at the Falken Wild Peak (i.e. Rocky Mountain), Yoko Geolander AT/S, and the Toyo Open Country A/T. I'm also currently researching a good kayak rack to go with my new-found hobby of kayaking in the local salt marshes.

Looking forward to "meeting" everyone and sharing some info on what I feel is the BEST SUV!

Hello and welcome, NB2S! For a first truck, you've done very nicely. I too am from a long line of Honda products, incl. Accords, Civics, Acura Integras and a Legend. You're staying with quality, going with Toyota this time. I just recently bought my first kayak, too--looking forward to playing a bit with that (don't have a carrier yet, though). I have a new set of Goodyear Wrangler Authority A/Ts that have proven to be excellent tires--aggressive tread, but quiet on the road. Got 'em at Walmart, of all places. Enjoy the forum!

Hey neighbor, welcome to the family. I'm a 3rd Gen owner, but always like to see people in any gen 4runner.

Not sure if you've priced tires, but I found Discount Tire to be one of the cheapest places in town. Shop around and ask for written estimates, that way you can show other places the price and maybe get them to beat it.
 
Thanks for the warm welcome everyone! And yes... GO NOLES!!!!!! CHOP CHOP BISHES!!! Momo that is so sad about the knee surgery... *sigh* I could have been cheering you on from the stands! And Glade - so funny you mention Discount Tire... I got a quote from them, and then for the heck of it got a quote from Sun Tire... they actually quoted me $80 less (without even knowing I had a quote from Discount) and the price includes all the goodies like road hazard, free flat repair, free lifetime balance/rotate. I have an appointment Saturday morning for the install - very excited!

You know you're a car geek when you get excited over new tires... :boink:

I bought my 4R in Miami several years ago. The sun had baked it. With black on black I would recommend getting a good dash conditioner with UV protectant. A boating store would probably be your best bet. Find a shady area or parking garage and wax it at least twice a year. Get a reflective windshield shade and crack the windows. Try to park in the shade when you can. These vehicles last a long time, you want to keep it nice!

Glad you found a great price at Sun Tire. Be sure and post pics.

I got my BFG's 3 months ago and am still stoked with how great they look. There's def something about getting the right tires for your T4R!
 
1995 4Runner

Howdy from sunny South Florida, Ft. Lauderdale to be exact.
Just traded a rusting out 1972 VW bus for a 1995 4Runner...what a deal!
The bumpers need to be replaced with something a little more aggressive. I have been online and there are some very expensive off road bumpers out there. Looking for a little help with the best, low cost off road front & rear bumper out there.
