Greetings - Original family owned 1985 4Runner SR5

Hi Everyone,

Well since my dad originally purchased it new in Nov 84, this jewel has been garaged and driven occasionally for the last 30 years and currently has under 170k on it. Luckily for me, for my 45th birthday, he decided to pass it down to me since he knows I will cherish it.

Attached is a picture of it the week we got it, and except for a few door dings ,rock chips and some slightly faded decals on the hood, it looks the same as it did back in 1985.

Anyways, I'm excited to learn all the little tips and tricks this forum has to offer.

Ahh, the old 22RE. Mine, a extra-cab truck with the same color scheme, was fuel injected making the engine a 22REI.

22re is the fuel injected nomenclature. the carbureted version is the 22r. the turbo (w/FI) is 22ret. there was no 22rei.

may also be a 22rec (for california version).

Updated pics of the minor restoration. It's been years since my original post but I finally got around to it. Just had the original decals installed recently. Yes its the original paint too.

I'm a huge fan of that era. The style is classic and the build was the best. Solid front axles leaf springs 5sp man and solid 4cyl. Great size as well. Looks like the truck in "over the top". Awesome it was your dads too.

That thing is pristine! I've noticed a lot of vehicles are in great shape up in the PNW. Do they not use salt up there on the roads in the winter?

I have had multiple 84-85 4runners. IMO first thing to do is ditch the push pull steering and install crossover. I think 4x4 Labs is still making a low crossover so you dont have to worry about lifting it.

Wow! I haven't seen one of these in over 10 years. They didn't stand up well to the road salt in the Northeast.
Always loved the removable top.
