I like how both the non factory e-locker equipped members are wanting to do this mod and the e-locker automatic transmission people are complaining about losing o/d.
Non equipped e-locker people this option is not for you. Sorry...
Unless, you have a true mechanical rear locker there is no reason to be locked up at highway speeds.

I have seen this forum for a while, and after this mod, I decided to get an account. So I am a bit new here. Anyway, this took 45 minutes for me on my '99 4runner and it worked perfectly. I actually grounded the wire to the bolt holding the black box up. I didn't cut the 5mph safety wire though, just the blue and red one. I saw it changed one persons gearing but I didn't have that issue, it would only change when I put it in 4lo like its supposed to.

I saw this a very long time ago and was on my ??? list of things I want/need/ ???? due items on the 4runner. As I did other things to my 4Runner and me being me I would NEVER do this mod. Now if I need lockers, which I have, I need slow, not fast speeds outside of 4Lo. I will say my conditions aren't warranted to high speed running, but no locker is required for high speed running..

Bringing the old thread back up once again.
Mostly because I've tried this both ways.
First I snipped the blue/red stripe wire and grounded theend coming from the plug, this tricked the ecu into thinking the 4r was in 4wd.
Next I grounded the same wire coming from the harness. That enabled me to use the locker in any drive mode, however I lost OD.
Maybe I missed it reading this thread. Has anyone found the fix for this before I put a switch in to ground.

Bringing this back up. Gonna ask two dumb questions.
When cutting the "blue" wire. You are taking the computer side (plug side) and sending it to ground right? Not the harness side.
Also, those that put this on a switch, did you just run a wire from ground, to a switch and splice into the blue wire so that it operates normally when off?

Ok, I just went ahead and gave it a shot.
I had a spare rocker switch laying around so this is what I did and it works.
Ground -> switch -> splice into blue/red wire.
When the switch is off, nothing has changed everything is normal. Switch turned on, ground signal is sent to to the 4wd ecm.
The 5mph safety still works, shifting into low still enables the e-locker like normal. But now, when I am in 2wd or 4-hi, I can hit the switch and push the e-locker button and it engages.
The more I think about it, the switch was probably un-needed but I read so many posts about people having overdrive and other issues.
Ok, switch is un-needed. Spent all day offroading and driving with it grounded and everything worked like it always did.
