Yeah, live and learn. You'll never get paint to stick to unprepped plastic chrome like that.

Some good tips above. 1) You have to tooth the surface 2) You need an adhesion promoter and I'll add 3) A flex agent. The plastic expands and contracts (and deflects from bugs and rocks) and straight paint without a flex agent is eventually going to lift.

I have used a spray kit called Preval (Preval | Affordable & Portable Aerosol Spray System) with great results in the past. You can get them at auto body supply shops and mix your own paint and additives. You will get far superior results than you can from shake and shoot. Costs a little more, but well worth it.

Don't give up. Failure the first time is an opportunity to learn. ;-)

I just did mine a few weeks ago. Washed with Dawn, sanded chrome with 120 grit (I think), and used satin black Krylon fusion. I probably did like 6 light coats and seemed to turn out okay. I let it dry in the house for 5 days.

I didnt use adhesion promoter with the Fusion and the instructions advised to spray the paint directly to the prepped surface as its designed to work on plastic parts. Marketing gimmic or the real deal? Who knows.

If mine peels and looks like crap I will can it and buy a new grill.
