Grinding sound at/near left (ccw) wheel lock...

My 2004 Limited 2WD V8 119k, is making a grinding sound when at/near wheel lock when turning left. About the only time this is an issue is when parking in tight spots or making a sharp u-turn. Anyone have an idea as to the probable cause?

Check to see if your driver's side tire is contacting the black flexible rubber flap between the rear of the wheel well and the engine bay. It's attached with some clips to the frame rail and inner fender liner. Maybe it's torn or come loose.

Let us know.

I experienced something similar and it turned out to be my CV....

I hope that's the issue and not something more serious. Thanks for the welcome and input, and I'll let ya know.

Well, I checked under the fenders and it appears that the thin plastic covers on the inside of the wheel wells on both sides have torn off. I had my wife help me turn the wheel to near lock (when I Hear the scraping), but I could not see anything touching the wheel or anything that looks like it's been scraping. I did some more research that said the wheel stops could cause a sound like that and greasing them would stop it. I tried that. Nope. Still grinding, but again, only at/near full lock, not just normal driving.

Someone mentioned the CV joints, how would I test/verify that being the cause?

Additionally, could it be the bearings? I wouldn't think so because it doesn't grind except in that one scenario: slowly driving and turning to the driver's side to/near lock.

CV failure is usually associated with a torn and/or leaking boot.... Bearing failure is usually more of a rumbling sound and should be noticeable under more conditions than when you are turning.... CV's are not that bad to change if you have the right tools and equipment... You can search the forum and should find several threads on the process.... If there is any question I would get it to a trustworthy shop for their assessment before it gets worst..... CV or something else, a grinding noise is never something that ends well if you don't get it fixed.....

Am thinking you might want to check one other thing..... Sometimes the dust shield gets bent in such a way as to come in contact with the rotor when it flexes slightly.... I ran into this when I redid my rotors and calipers a year or so ago.... Grinding sound pretty much any time I was turning to that side and rolling.... Fix was pretty easy.... Jacked the side and ran a screw driver around the edges of the shield to flex it back away from the rotor.... I don't think that is what you have but it might be worth a look....
