anybody know where the ground points are on a 2000 T4R? i jus got some new ground wires and am planning to wire it on sometime soon... can anyone help?:awais:

Anybody with a ground kit on their 4runner, please chime in with the ground points you use...I'm not looking to ground my stereo...I just need important points to hook up my ground wires...pictures would be appreciated as well

Have you considered the negative post of your battery? You do realize that no matter what you do with your electrical system you are limited by that 8 guage wire you have going from your chassis to your battery. Without upgrading that, any other wiring upgrades would seem sort of futile, don't ya think? I realize that it is a short run, but it is still going to be the weak link in any upgraded wiring you do..

all im wanting to do with these ground wires is to help start my car a lot faster and run a lot more smoother than it is now... can someone help with that please!

I plan to dyno the truck. After that I intend to do a grounding upgrade, to maybe help extend the life of my stereo, and if at all possible improve preformance. I know from building Vintage sytyle tube amps that the better the grounding the better, and safer, the amp. I use 16 guage solid copper core cloth insulation wire for all grounds in my amps. Most builders use 20 guage titanium wire. The 16 guage copper solid speaks for itself. The Cloth insulation is vintage character. Back to business at hand. The 14 - 16 guage that is currently grounding my truck, seems a little weak for the voltage/amperage going through it... to me anyway, so if I get a bunch of 8, and 2, or 4 than I'm way up on the 14-16. I can't see how it can hurt.
So any input on what to ground? I will do those that make the most sense, as well as all that I can physically see, and look to be too small.

just do the big 3 upgrade with 4guage or larger wire.

yep, it's not really necessary to have alot of grounding wires all in your engine bay unless you like the 'style' of it. for me, i regret buying this stupid ground kit. for the main thing i would ground is the alternator, firewall on driver's side, and engine block. these 3 are the most important to me. alternator gives a better start. engine block gives a better throttle response (i noticed alittle bit but not huge differences) and firewall helps with everything else INSIDE your car. like my fog lights switch, my gauges, etc. etc. but yes, you should make your own grounding wires. the kits are not worth it.

ok so i know that its been a while but i still havent got to the point to install in my ground wires.... what are the most important ground points that i need to know of that i should wire? because its been a while and i really wanna get this done... i know the universal kits have several wires but do i need to get all of them to their ground point? please help.... and if so post pictures if possible... THANK YOU!!!

ground wires are basically wires that will be grounded to a certain area to give move lighting, performance?, or other stuff. for me, i grounded mine to my headlight, firewall, alternator, lower bumper (for my fogs), and lower chassis.
let me explain each one, headlight is grounded is for BRIGHTER output. firewall is for everything else that is NEAR the driver side like, gauge light, A/C, my cigerette lighter plugs, etc. alternator is for a better charge with a good start. near bumper is for my fog lights, and lower chassis is for my amp under the passenger seat. for me, it's better for my lights. not really for performance.

Id hate to burst your bubble, but your wasting your money. My experience with import cars and sports cars has proven that the grounding kits your speaking of make very little, if any type of increase in performance, your start ups, igniton, or anything of that nature as they claim they do. Its been proven, dynoed, and checked with a volt meter to see if it increases any grounding currents. Sorry man, but its pretty much a waste of time and money. Might as well tap the wires into the neg terminal of the battery to the chassis.
