Anybody with a ground kit on their 4runner, please chime in with the ground points you use...I'm not looking to ground my stereo...I just need important points to hook up my ground wires...pictures would be appreciated as well
OK, so say you are going to upgrade the grounding system... It's a fairly inexpensive upgrade, if you make your own kit. Right?
For instance 4 gauge, or even 0 guage NEG terminal to chassis, then the same from POS to starter. This is very interesting to me becouse I have a 95 SR5 limited that has about a 16 guage from neg to chassis, and neg to the fender... That isn't a very strong grounding system right?
Anyway, If I were to do this making my own kit... What would be the recommended wire guage to what ground? I know that say 2 guage for arguement sake for the chassis ground from neg, maybe to the fender, and then POS to starter. What else witht he 2 guage ? It's fairly expensive I would guess. Also, I see all the grounds in my 95 are about 20 - 16 guage. So if I upgraded the rest of the grounds to 8 guage wouldn't that be a huge upgrade? I would be very interested in doing this, and reporting back to the group. There is a Dyno in town, and after I get the exhaust redone to 2.25 in with the flowmast series 40 delta. I plan to dyno the truck. After that I intend to do a grounding upgrade, to maybe help extend the life of my stereo, and if at all possible improve preformance. I know from building Vintage sytyle tube amps that the better the grounding the better, and safer, the amp. I use 16 guage solid copper core cloth insulation wire for all grounds in my amps. Most builders use 20 guage titanium wire. The 16 guage copper solid speaks for itself. The Cloth insulation is vintage character. Back to business at hand. The 14 - 16 guage that is currently grounding my truck, seems a little weak for the voltage/amperage going through it... to me anyway, so if I get a bunch of 8, and 2, or 4 than I'm way up on the 14-16. I can't see how it can hurt.
So any input on what to ground? I will do those that make the most sense, as well as all that I can physically see, and look to be too small.
Thanks in advance...
