Group buy : DC power Engineering 270amp alternator

Got it installed...

Couple notes...haven't read any details on this specifically, but the OEM alternator has three mounting points, this new alternator has two.

Had a tech do the install and change the serpentine belt (119K miles on the one belt and it still looked great!). You need to pull off any brackets from your old alternator and move them to the new one. There is a bracket on the back that holds a wire loom. It's tough to install after-the-fact, don't ask me how I know. Saw that this was not done by the tech so I went in to check on everything.

The new alternator is also missing threads to bolt the main wire harness to the alternator body...OEM had two 10mm bolts holding the harness next to the alternator and away from the UCA. I had to shift the harness to angle away from the UCA...looks like it has enough space now.

Anyway - pics:

Hey everyone,

Been a little since I've been on here. Just wanted to let you know the rest of the alternators that are on order will be shipping tomorrow 9/20/2016. You should be receiving an e-mail with tracking information tomorrow.

Thanks!

First off, the install per all the help in this thread made a super easy deal of this (even though I had a shop do the actual install). It was just a better use of my time.

Now I feel like I can rest easy when using aftermarket stereo, Ham, fridge, winch, compressor and lights. Also, interesting thing is that my stereo actually sounds like it is getting more power. Maybe it is just my imagination, but is that possible after the "big 3 upgrade" and the new alternator? rigtec?

My bestest buddy from FedEx showed up today with a special delivery :clap2:

Disassembled last night after work, reassembled tonight, pretty straight forward.

Also, interesting thing is that my LED light bars are brighter, like they're getting more power. Maybe it is just my imagination, but is that possible after the "big 3 upgrade" and the new alternator? rigtec? :behindsofa:

Just kidding bimrunner, couldn't help myself :fish:

Hi Ben,

Well now, that would all depend upon the electrical system's status just prior to the upgrade. A voltage increase or higher current availability won't usually improve upon the sound quality UNLESS... the S.Q. was already poor as a result of a prior low voltage/amperage condition. For instance: I had been using two 'very' high horse power mono-block sub-woofer amplifiers. One faithful night while pushing the sound system just a bit harder than usual it began to rain with the temperature also dropping exponentially! So naturally, I increased the heating setpoint (Blower speed), as well as bringing up the rear tailgate defroster, wiper speed, and engaging the sideview heated mirrors.

It was then that I noticed the classic 'Headlight pulsation' and electrical motor (wipers & blower) low voltage drag! This was the very first time that I realized that I had an electrical recovery issue; which means that not only could my electrical power plant NOT keep up with the accessory demand, but at that point the battery was never going to be charged with the alternator already 'full fielded', 'over-heating', and barely able to hold a nominal 12V! It was this observation that inspired me to find a large output alternator company that builds High quality, Large case Denso "Hairpin" Style alternators that will not only produce the immense current needed, but has No Problem rejecting the heat levels associated with high current production!

...So glad to see this project moving fwd as planned; if I can be of any help at all, just hit me up and I'll be glad to offer you, 'and the others', whatever resources that I may have!

rig, Cheers!

"Man... seems they'll let ANYBODY join this community these days"; after all they let me join didn't they... case-&-point! :behindsofa:

lol!

Okki were those battery cable lengths you posted in your picture good for you? I was going to make mine tonight and wanted to ask. Thanks!

I made my cable lengths 19" (actual cable not including the ends) and it worked just fine. You want them as short as possible but still be able to work with them.

The price offered is a 22% discount over MSRP!

Very confusing. Wouldn't a discount be under MSRP? Although where I live they like mark things up 40% and then discount them 22% calling it a "deal". :toilet:

The big question is................did you bust up a knuckle like a certain person ^^^^

Nope my hands are intact. I wore mechanix glove while taking out the old alternator.

It's really tight in there and I've got these T-Rex arms... can't be too careful.

And I didn't even blow a fuse... Antman :behindsofa:

I'm getting everything prepared to get mine on. Do you remember if the idler pulley was a standard thread (lefty loosy) or was it a reverse thread? I'd hate to break the aluminum mount it is on.

Thank you!
