Group buy for Doug Thorley PREMIUM VERSION headers, need 20 people!

I tried to call you to verify address and the number answers in another language when I call the phone number you gave (ending in 63). I will try to email you now.

If anyone paid labor to have their headers installed, around what price are you paying? Just trying to get an idea of what is fair.

It’s gonna take 7 shop hours for most competent places that are also willing to do it. Get them to quote that many hours or ask their labor rate to get a better, fuller picture. They could quote $700 but only be thinking 4 hours. Then your price doubles when they bill you for the actual time. That’s a bad news phone call.

If a place has specifically done these headers before, they’ll do it faster, but these are on the harder end of the spectrum to install.

My shop underestimated the difficulty and under quoted me. Told me about 4 hours and $400. I ended up paying for 6.5 hours at $100/hr. They actually had about 13 hours into them, but they practically installed them twice because they thought they’d messed up.

They only made me pay for their successful install, but I’m also a “price and quality” customer. I’ll sacrifice the time it takes to complete the job for the sake of quality work at a good price. I also tip sausage-egg-cheese biscuits for their whole crew when I drop off my vehicle.

Headers/Y pipe/ Thrush muffler. Planning on some HF Cats and a new muffler soon, so here is the before audio. Drone is pretty substantial 2k - 2.5k rpms. If you can listen on a stereo, that's pretty close to what it's like in the cab.

I posted a picture a page or two back that shows my 1/4 wave resonator. If you look at the chart below, you can figure out an exact length to make one based on your drone. Just target the middle of the drone range. Pretty simple and it straight up DELETES the drone. For you, it looks like a 23" total length would do it. Might be worth a shot if everything aside from that one RPM range sounds good to you. I wouldn't do the 1/4 wave until you've finalized the remainder of your exhaust changes though, just in case something alters the drone "location"

I added back the stock resonator before the gibson, and then did a 1/4 wave resonator behind the muffler. It's probably quieter than factory under all conditions now.

I think it probably will change the range location. Cats will most likely go where the DT res are now. Thinking a 3" in/out muffler. Heard one on a GX and liked the low end frequency. Need some 4:56s, cause it feels like the expected torque loss is there. I do feel some mid range punch off road though. Which is where I like to run anyway, so I'm happy as hell. FYI-none of that video was WOT or over 4k rpms. Good thing too cause I was up to 80 in a 55 right before I came across the PoPo.

Gotcha, I have a friend who used to be a Toyota mechanic who offered to do it on the side. I just wasn't sure if I was going to have to pay 500 or 2000 in labor, haha.

Thanks for the info, we are for sure the same type of customers haha.

Check out the cats in my signature. I got the 2.5" version for mine. Truly high-performance and will last much longer than the Magnaflow cats.

Had pretty bad stink from the OEM cats, and they cleaned it up nicely. Still have the typical exhaust smell, but the rotten smell is gone. It'll probably take them longer to get up to temp where you're thinking about installing them, but once they're hot, they should work as well as mine do.

I have no cats currently and it's pretty toxic, so anything will be an improvement. There was a video with a GX470 that was running the G Sports. He was doing a dyno run and was putting out pretty good power, so I considered them, but too rich for my blood. I've sunk a crap load of money in this thing and I still need gears.

Dumb question here,

Where in line should the cats go. I ordered the headers and Y pipe, and planned to go catless, but I'm waffling because of the smell. Can I just add high flows in the mix?

Running the same cats here. Very happy w/ them.

If you're installing yourself, try it out first. A side exit exhaust tip helps. Beyond that, here's a more complete answer:

If you ordered long tube headers and the Thorley y-pipe, the best place for the cats to go is to replace the resonators on the y-pipe. You want cats as close to the engine-end of the exhaust as possible, because cats have to get up to 800-900 degrees before they start to do the, uh, catalytic conversion :) The further away they are, the "colder" (in relative terms) they'll be and the less converting they'll do.

This placement kind of feels like a waste when you just immediately hack up the DT y-pipe, but don't forget that this is the only stainless steel, madrel bent, y-pipe offering that can provide a starting point for you. It does 90% of the fabrication work for you, and makes it incredibly easy for an exhaust shop to get it done. Don't cheap out on the cats. Those G-sports or an OEM grade from somewhere will filter the best. I'm personally pleased with the OEM grade magnaflow, but they are more expensive than the generic "high flow" magnaflow most people run.

If you got shorty headers, then there'll be a nice gap between the y-pipe and headers that you'll want your cats to go.

I ended up ordering OEM manifold studs and nuts from Partsouq for $75. Not wanting to wait for the titanium kit. The other option is an ARP kit. Or reuse stock.

Dang, that stinks. Not a good look for TW. The studs are indeed really nice, but I can’t believe the delays have gone this long.

I’m not privy to any titanium shortages or raw material supply chain issues, but if it were outside their control, I’d have expected some kind of communication. Nothing on their social media indicates they are having issues... As is, it seems like we just swamped them beyond their production capacity (or willingness).

I feel guilty that I was a squeaky wheel and received mine at this point :(

Bringing this thread back to the front page.

Any recent titanium deliveries? I'm trying to remain patient on these, but my truck at 252k is in dire need of all the new parts I've purchased and I've got a decent amount of projects I need it for... so yeah, running out of time to be patient.

Still waiting and this virus is definitely not going to help. Of course anyone that can’t wait any longer on studs, I may have another option soon. If anyone can’t wait and needs refunded just call me or text me and it won’t be an issue 717-319-2100

Stay safe out there. Keep washing hands and don’t touch your face and you’ll be ok.

Jason, how’s the supercharger kit coming?

So I dropped my truck off at the dealership today to have them swap the exhaust out. My old exhaust decided to start rattling away and I guess it's time to get it done and bite the bullet on labour-$$$.

I bought the LT headers, the y-pipe, the Gibson exhaust with right-side exit, and the titanium hardware kit. I ended up ordering the 90deg mini-cats off Amazon, rather than those straight spacer adapters.

My question to those of you that already installed everything (and went with the 90deg mini-cats), did you have issues with them threading into the y-pipe bungs? They seem to thread into the DT headers, but only threaded in about one turn or so on the y-pipe - did you have to chase the threads...or?

Also, did anyone's y-pipe come with clamping hardware, because mine didn't :(

Any other installation issues that may come up?

My 90 degree adapters for the sensors went right into my headers and my y-pipe. Your y-pipe should've came with clamps. Contact DT.

My left side y pipe sensor bung threads where all out of wack. Right went in fine. I was under the impression, you should never space header downstream bungs, those two sensors are integral to computer readings for a properly running truck. . I stacked two 90degree spacers on top of each other on my Dt y pipe and no cel, truck runs well.

Also another thing to add. I had to heat and bend my y pipe to meet my lt headers. The driver side was off almost two inches.

I’m running Dt long tube, Dt y pipe and Gibson. Again no need for mini cat spacers.
