whats the purpose of co2 systems???

Most people air down their tires at the trailhead before they 4wheel. A lot of times there are no means to air back up after you are done, this provides an easy and effective way of doing that.

C02 is also nice if you pop the bead on your tire, it flows enough volume that you can re-seat a tire bead.

any welding supply store, or any place the refill fire extinguishers. it's not terribly expensive.

Where would you refill CO2?

Like previously stated, welding supply or fire extinguisher recharge facility. Should run you know more that $12.00 or so for a 10# tank
