GSPRunner's Life Story/Build/Adventure/Photo Thread

Went down to Oregon Thursday and ran some sections of the Oregon Back Roads Discovery Route over the weekend. Still pretty early in the season, so we were worried about too much snow in the higher elevations, and that did turn out to be an issue. It rained a lot as well, so we had some soggy nights/mornings. I stayed nice and dry in my CVT though. My TJM winch took a shit on my as well. I was pulling an 80 series out of a snow bank, and it just quit. It's getting plenty of power, just clicks whenever I try to remote line in or out. Still under warranty, so I'll look into getting it fixed/replaced. Luckily there were others with me with recovery gear, otherwise it would've been a LONG day. Due to the snow, we were unable to travel where we had originally planned to, but it was still a good time. I'll definitely be going back some day, later in the season to finish what we started. Unfortunately I didn't take many pics, due to my camera lens being broken. Here are a couple.

4.5" on mine. I am running 1" spacers though. If I were to do it again, I'd have gotten the 3.5" version.

Thanks. My procomps have 4" and I'm going with those same tires in the fall. I have 3" of lift and I'm wondering if I should run 1/2" spacers to get a good stance.

Any rubbing issues with those coopers and your lift combo?

Not much, a little when wheeling but nothing too concerning

None. Zero. Zilch. Ran 285s before and had minor rubbing but really only rub on the flares at full stuff with the 255s. I forgot to put it in the specs but I'm also running 1" Bora spacers with my 4.5" BS F5s and still hardly any rubbing

If you had 3.5 BS on you F5s, you think that you wouldn't rub? I am on a super slow build trajectory and this seems like very useful information. At the moment I am running BFG KO2s in 265/75/16s on factory 5 stars. I would not be opposed to getting some new rims and maybe bigger tires. I have dug those Cooper ST MAXX for a while. I like that they offer it in the 255 size.

Now, let's say that you wanted to go back to a 285 size tire. Would the 3.5 BS rims cause you clearance problems? It just seems like there are so few tires in the 255 size to pick from. I like the Coopers, but feel that I would have little to choose from if they ever decided to stop making them in the 255 size. To me, it's good to have options, especially when those options have to work fo r DD duty on our wet roads. I dig your rim and tire combo, but I would like to avoid spacers by choosing the right BSing for any new rims I buy.

Well with the spacers, I'm essentially at 3.5" BS right now, and I have no rubbing issues. The only time I rub is when off-road, mainly when I stuff the front wheels. I think I would rub more with 285s obviously. I rub mostly on the back of my front fender flare, which you don't have. But I haven't done anything as far as trimming, pounding, anything for clearancing. You haven't done suspension yet right? I'm running Total Chaos UCAs but if I had let's say LR UCAs I could adjust the caster more and then I think I'd have zero rubbing, even without trimming.

Right on. I was just wondering if you thought the 3.5 BS would also work for the 285s. Of the two sizes I think I like the 255s a bit more, it's just that the 285s offer a much deeper selection. That's interesting to know about the LR UCAs vs. a uniball design. I obviously need to research UCAs a bit more. That's why the 3.5 BS caught my eye. Anything that will make my future lift life easier is helpful. And like you said, not having any fender flares will be one less thing to worry about.

I really dig your pics and the build.

Probably not. I do like the classic look of the ARB though. I got a screaming deal on my bumper so I couldn't pass it up. I think there is some to be desired with the approach angle and strength, but for the money it's hard to beat.

I'm also having a tough time picking. I've ran through a few deals on CL for the ARB bumper and I'm having a time pulling the trigger because I like CBI/Relentless products. The price is very enticing though. Your rig makes the ARB bumper even more desirable. I love the classic look. Would you suggest I pull the trigger or go with something else? If money was not the issue.

For the deal that I got on my ARB, I have no regrets. I like the look. But, I can see myself changing it out for something else down the road. Something a little stronger, and something with a little better approach angle. It's all about what you want though.

Someone say approach angle?

I still think this is the best bumper for 3rd gens as far as looks and performance.

Finally got around to installing my RCI skids. I got the front/trans/transfer set in aluminum, decided to leave them bare. I think they look pretty cool unfinished and should rust and discolor like steel. Great product, perfect fit.

Went down to Central Oregon for a few days for the long Holiday weekend with A.Wilson013, our ladies and our dogs. Was a great time with great weather the entire trip. We did a lot of relaxing(drinking) around camp, and a little exploring. I love it down there. I love living in Washington, but there is so much to do down there, with a much drier climate. I've been thinking long and hard about the possibility of relocating down there. Here are some pictures.

Man cant believe we missed you guys at the Overland Rally! I have a black 3rd gen with CVT RTT and Annex room, we had the BCToyota4WD Flag hanging. Next year!

Just curious any photos of how your CVT tent is attached to the roof? Thanks!

Damn, yeah I'm surprised I didn't see you either...thought I had all the 3rd gen 4Runners accounted for!

The tent is mounted using 8(4 on each side) Smittybuilt Defender L brackets. They bolt onto the factory side rails, and the tent mounts on them using the aluminum mounting rails. I have plans for a full length platform rack down the road eventually, but I've had it mounted this way for over a year and it does the job. Nice and low to the roof which was my main goal.

Ya i currently have the WMW rack and i have the tent mounted without the rails, directly to the RTT floor using U bolts, but its still too high for my liking. I do like the look of the truck with the roof rack when the RTT is not on, but when it is it really only holds the tent and 2 reverse lights.

Do you have a part number or a link to the brackets? My buddy might be interested in doing it that way.

Also, how is the awning mounted? Reverse L bracket off the bottom of RTT?

There is the link for them.

And yes, awning is mounted using the supplied L brackets, from the bottom of the tent.
