Yes, if I'm not mistaken, you can control the satellite radio functions through the factory navigation system.

If not, you could always buy one of these, which will make it work for you.

Thought I'd pipe in. I have a Sirius Sportster, about the same size as the XM SkyFi. I had a terrible time deciding where to mount mine as I didn't want it to be way up on the dash or block the passenger knee. I also wanted an easy reach. I placed mine in the left hand cup holder in front of the shifter. It has a nice tilt to it so the driver and passenger can see the screen. Its also a good location for hiding all the wires (clean look).

XM vs Sirius? Its a personal decision. Some people love one and hate the other.. I think they are quite similar, anythings better than FM.

I remember you talking about mounting the Roady2 in the flip-out. I'm thinking, personally, that although the T4R flip-down is a great spot for security reasons, it wouldn't be that great for usability. On my Sirius, I'm constanty looking at the screen, rotating the knob, etc. I'd think the viewing angle and ergonomics may not be ideal.. but I guess you never know until you try!
 
True..looking down at the armrest location is more hazardous than looking more towards the front of the dashboard area. Sometimes you do not think of these things until you actually have one in-hand.

Chunderboy: I was on two forums called xmfanclub & xm411. There is an installation topic that is very informative. I am sure Sirius has some as well. You may to check these out. I found them addictive. Search for 4runner under the install headers & see what you find.
 
Decisions, decisions. In reference to putting one in the cup holder, i am a coffee drinker, so i def can see myself hitting a bump or something, and soaking the unit. Then not only will i scream and pump my fists like an efing child, i will have to get a new one. But i know for a fact that i don't want to put it on the dash. Ruins the look of the interior.

But i will def look at those two forums. If they are half as informative and good as this one, i will def. get addicted to them as well

And yes, anything is better than FM without a doubt
 
Good luck in your quest. I did find someone who placed a Commander, an older XM unit, inside of the flip-down garage opener/sunglasses holder. This would be ideal for me, but I am involve in other projects at the moment and don’t have money for the TOY right now. The highest priority on my T4R list is tires.

I didn't have the nerve to do anything permanent to my 4Runner (it's still too new and I tend to screw up), so I bought one of these:

The largest cup is still too small, so I flipped it upside-down and stood it up in the passenger cupholder. I personally love the location. The only downside is that if I accelerate quickly or hit the brakes it may wobble, but that's just because I've been too lazy to do anything about it.

Never saw one of those. That is really good. Clean and simple. As for doing something permanent, i have been going back in forth in my mind about that as well. I am completely retarded when it comes to installations like that. I think the most extreme thing that i did with electronics was hard wire in a radio detector.

Is your system wired to anything, or is it using radio frequency to transmit to the radio. If that is the case, that is exactly what i am looking for. On the other hand i was also debating getting the nav system which has xm in it already, and killing two birds with one stone. I guess it just comes down to dollars and cents

Yea that Belkin cup mounting system looks sweet. Now you just need a waterproof satellite receiver so your coffee does not leak into it :eek:
 
Yea right. that is the only forceable problem with that. Me and my dunkin donuts coffee will be all up in that unit. Maybe i can laminate it. yea right


What to do.
 
You might be able to simply clip the receiver onto the garage-opener flip down compartment. Then tuck the two wires inside the headliner along the window, so it can be removed easily. Do not loosen any interior hardware. Not sure if this will obstruct your vision. My point is once you select a receiver you might want to just try different locations before making a more permanent & clean looking installation. Whatever place you decide it has be removable; since you are on a lease.

Your totally right. Now since this is my real first new car, and my real first lease, are leasing companies willing to bargain with you to sell the car when the lease is up. I mean i love this car, and i know i will go over in my miles.

Wells fargo is the one that i am using. Do you have any experience with them. Or for any lease company for that matter
 
Sorry, I have never leased a vehicle. Talking about leases, once you get satellite radio you can pay your bill month by month or get a lower rate by paying up front for a two-year deal. Not sure what happens if you decide to stop receiving the signal in the middle of the two-year plan. They might refund the money. This is something you should check into.

Yea, and since i am on the family plan, b/c my father has one in his truck, and in the house, i think i pay something like 6 or 7 a month. That is a great deal.

You can always trade in a lease, and most times, if you have fulfilled most if not all of your payment obligations (term) then you wont really get hurt financially. I leased my 04 4Runner before I bought my 05 and I only slightly took a negative equity hit on the 04. Not a real problem. Alot of times, leasing companies are really flexible about ending the lease (i.e. trading it in for another vehicle at lease end or before). I put a bluetooth car kit in my 04 and I had no problems when I traded it in.

Hope it helps, but the best thing is to just see what your payoff and vehicle would be at the time you are looking at getting rid of the vehicle. Also, make sure the company has no hidden fees....etc....
 
Also, a forseeable problem is the fact that i love to drive this car. I mean i love it. Like a dream. ergo, tacking on those miles. I mean i am not going crazy with it.

15000 miles a year foir 39mths. had it for 5 months. 6500 on it now. and got it with 175.

Do, you think that i will get killed on the extra miles when i bring it back. I can see it being over by a couple of thousand.

Then what do i do.

Well, it depends....Do you think you will just pay all the payments, then turn it back in, or do you think that when the time comes you will just trade it in towards whatever vehicle you want then? If you are just going to give it back, then you may have a problem. If you keep up the current rate of accumulation, then you will be about 600 miles per year over your allotment. That would be in the neighborhood of $100-$200 per year in overage depending on your per mile charge. If you are going to trade it in, then I would worry less about that as they will be going towards your payoff amount. I would keep it the 39 months, drive it as I wish, trade it on something new, and then have the dealer your working with paying it off, then difference between value of the vehicle and payoff, would not be very much at that point I would think. I will keep my 05 for 48 months of a 60 month term, and then trade it in for an 09 Rover. Whatever difference there is between payoff and trade value I will pay out of pocket and be clear of any negative equity I had. The Rover will be my work vehicle and will be a tax write off for me.....So, that is my take on the situation.
