hey guys! i'm new over here and just bought a 2005 4runner and i find a little problem with my a/c!!
i turn on and work good but after maybe 1 min the a/c clutch stop and after another min star again and work like that all the time!! the freon is good, i replaced the ambient sensor wich is located in front of the radiator on the radiator support and also replace the a/c relay(grey color) to the blue one and nothing change!!! please some advice!!!! thanks guys!

yes is blowing cold air!!!
The clutch is supposed to do that! but has to stop at longer time intervals! when the cabin interior temperature has reached the desired!! is not maching the inside cabin temp with the one on the a/c control screen!!!
i know the 4r 4th gen has two more thermostat.one over the dash cover next to the widshiedl and the other one inside on the evaporator wich i think is the one with send information but not the right one!!! i'll try to get any code from the a/c cluster but show me 0 codes!!!
 
I don't understand what your complaint is... the A/C clutch cycles roughly every minute or so, much like every other modern vehicle I have dealt with. The purpose of the A/C clutch cycling is to maintain a set amount of pressure in the system to create the cooling effect in the evaporator. Just because you have the desired temperature inside of the cabin does not mean the A/C stops functioning, it still needs to maintain that temperature, the A/C will always cycle when engaged, you get "warmer" air through the cycling of the blend-air door inside of the HVAC unit.
 
op, if you want/need it to blow cold air constantly, set the temp all the way to "LO"

hey blackworksinc you are firght!! i know how the a/c compressor work!! my concern is the shrot period of time between each stop!! i got a 2013 altima,2000 ford lightning and 1999 oldsmobil alero and when the a/c is working each stop from the a/c clutch is not to short!!! is more than my 4r do it!! i just asking to you guys,because you know better than me in toyota if this short period of time is NORMAL ON 4R 4TH GEN or is something wrong on it?? or i just so little confused on the 4r a/c system !!!! I would appreciate your comments about this!! thanks people!
 
X2 He seems to be extremely excited about this a/c issue. Even as I read his posts I pictured someone talking really fast and excitedely.
 
i hv an 05 sr5, it cycles differently from my rav4..but the main thing is..am getting cold air from the vents....so it cud cycle all it wants.....u cud buy a thermometer and check the temp at the vents.

note: take a chill pill, ur use is of the exclamation sign in kinda irritating n hilarious

different systems will have different cycling times. it all depends on the size, efficiency and cooling need of that particular vehicle. If you feel it is longer than it should be, you could find another 4th gen to compare it to.
 
Bringing things back to the to the original question. Its normal for the A/C to cycle that continiously on the 4Runner, as was stated some vehicles have different strategies/designs for operating compressors. My 4Runner is perfectly fine and I have my A/C clutch cycling roughly 40-60 seconds when put on MAX Cold (which is one of two settings I bother using anyways.)
 
From what I understand there is a $60 dollar part that goes bad in the A/C. Cuz mine will start blowing hot air.
