GX 460 springs on 4R?

I noticed the GX 460 is about 500lb heavier than the 4runner. Would it be possible to throw some GX coil springs on a 5th gen 4R and get a subtle lift kind of like the 4th gens with FJ springs?

Good question! I was thinking about changing out the front springs on my truck to level it and reduce the dive on deceleration.

why would you do that when there are tons of aftermarket suspension parts for the 4runner that i am sure are better than the gx?

I'm trying to find a way to lift my 4r 3/4"-1" at all 4 corners and improve ride and handling. I'm open to suggestions......

Agreed,

Here are 3 options to get a small rear lift:

0-2" Firestone airbags via toytec

1 1/2" spacers via toytec or daystar

2" OME 895e springs via toytec

And for the front just get the 5100's and set at 1.75" or get the 883/895e combo and that should yield almost 2" at all 4 corners.

There are plenty of good options for a 1.75-2" lift. But I want just a subtle lift.

I want to keep this truck for a long time. Any disadvantages to a spacer lift vs a coil-spring lift r/t reliability, etc?

Does anybody know the stock spring rate of the GX460? It is equiped with KDSS and rides much smoother than my KDSS equiped 4Runner. The GX I drove did not have the adaptive shock absorbers.

I'm interested in aftermarket springs but not sure if going up to 650lb springs will be too firm.

I was told today that these are no longer available by ARB and by Wheelers off road , Toytec has no clue about them either and said never heard of them.

If you know who has them , speak up. All OME stuff is 3" front or back for the 5th generation.

The OME's are still listed on the Toytec website. I hope they're still available b/c this is my "Plan-B".

883's:

Front OME Lift Coils - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

895e's:

Rear OME 895 & 895E Rear Coils (FJ & 03-09 4Run) - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

Newby here....so I may be wrong. But I think the above OME setup will provide a 1.5-2.0 lift when combined with stock shocks. When combined with OME shocks it is a 3' lift. Maybe that's where the confusion lies?

Guess you didn't talk to the right Toytec Lifts.

OME 883:*Front OME Lift Coils - Toytec Lifts: Toyota Lift Kits: FJ Cruiser Lift Kits, Tacoma Lift Kits, Tundra Lift Kits, 4 Runner Lift Kits, Sequoia Lift Kits, Toyota Truck Lift Kits

OME 895 & 895e:

Here is a member running this exact setup with factory shocks:http://www.toyota-4runner.org/5th-gen-t4rs/79394-my-sr5-build.html

Yep wrong: 883's with OEM or OME will be 1.5"-1.75", 895e's with OEM or OME shocks will give 1.5"-1.75".

Shocks don't provide ride height (5100's change the spring perch placement thus putting more compression on the spring providing a lift), but other than those just shocks will not provide any lift.

They Have OME springs , yes but if you call there they do not carry them , nor have correct specs for 5th generation and I was told they are not recommended for the 5th gen. Let me know if you get a different answer than I did .

Thanks for the clarification.

Does that apply to both front and rear 5100's? if you combined the above OME setup with 5100's front/ rear rather than keeping stock shocks would the lift remain 1.5-1.75?

Rear 5100's are just shocks the spring does not have any way of attaching to it like the front, by adding them you'll get a good shock but no lift.
