Handgun holster mod in a 4R?

I have a glock and I was just looking around the center console where I thought about doing a mod where I can install a holster inside the center compartment that's located between the seats. Has anyone done anything like this? Let's hear it!


Edit: Also, obviously the holster needs to be installed in a way where I can quickly pull it out if needed. I'm really curious to see if anyone has done anything liek this before!

I would suggest a biometric lock box. This way even if you are paying a restaurant bill while your family is in your vehicle you can control the weapon without being there.

Haha! Believe me, I already used the search feature. I didn't feel like searching so I did a quick search where I went through few threads before I decided to make a thread about the gun holster! Solid looks though, thanks!


Druss - I don't have a family or anything like that but this is purely for self protection only. I was actually intending on buying a portable gun safe for it whenever I travel because I have a different one but it's too big to fit inside the glove compartment. Like this one dude few posts above me said, he has the gun inside the holster whenever he's in the vehicle driving alongside with it. When he's away from the vehicle, he locks it inside his glove compartment. I'm pretty much thinking the same things he's already thinking, but I plan on getting a gun safe for the handgun so I can lock the safe inside the glove compartment box!


Trevloc - Solid looks, brother. That is exactly what I was looking for; however I did have a different location for the holster in mind...haha. Do you have 2%-20% tint? I must imagine you get pulled over often if a driver driving alongside you spots the handgun and calls the police on you where they have to get on the same roadway that you are on and pull you over. From there, you have to go through the process of showing them your concealed permit...which can be a huge hassle for you. Of course, do please correct me if I'm wrong. This is all assumption! I was thinking of hiding the holster stand iside the center compartment to greatly reduce the chances of others (drivers, passengers, etc...) from seeing the handgun in the holster rather than the outside on the driver's side. But then, you would be able to get to your gun quicker than me where I have to move a little bit to the left and open the center compartment to reach for the handgun. I wonder if I'm able to take the walls of the center compartment out where I can install the bolts. Hmph

Agreed. I'm not really into 'digital technology' these days. I'm more old school where I can be rest assured knowing my handgun's locked inside a gun safe box that cannot be open without a key.

The best answer (besides "on your hip") would be a custom designed lock box for the console/"kleenex compartment". Because when someone breaks into your car to get the change out of your cupholders, you know they're going to check that whole center console, and glove box, and under the seat. Someone posted one that was for another vehicle, the Titan I believe it was.
 
I remember seeing a holder for under the seat that was basicaly a bent rod that bolts to the floor and one just slides the barel over the end of the rod.

Cabelas has this locker for Tundras and Tacos. I dont know if 4Rs have the same console or not

Anyone I got, my 16 month old son would just end up pulling it out and shooting someone ;-) :uzi:
 
It isnt immediately handy, but I keep an old, beat up, 2nd Gen G17 in the hidden compartment in the glovebox with the glovebox locked. It fits perfectly, and I feel like it is secure there. Even if someone broke into the car and got into the locked glovebox, I doubt a thief would know about the secret compartment.

If I am ever in a situation where I want it to be more handy (my work takes me to railroad yards in rural areas, and I have run into some shady characters), I move the pistol to the door pocket.
 
First, trade the Glock in for a Springfield Armory... :bluejump:

There was a company making a floor mounted holster that could be mounted between seat and center console. They stopped making it supposedly for legal reasons.

This is where I keep mine and man was it a blessing. Yeah, unless people know to look here, they don't know that the compartment is there and it has saved me. A year ago, my truck was broken in to. They tried to steal my head unit, but failed and ruined my dash. Emptied out the center console, and stole my old iPhone out of the glove that I was using as an mp3 hard drive. I didn't care about anything else in the truck, except for my Sig Equinox P226 in the secret compartment (gun has special value to me). They never found it. I've since, switched that piece out for my Glock 37 (.45 GAP). It'd be a little easier for me to swallow if somebody steals the Glock than the Sig.

As a product of the 80's I carry my little J frame .38 with a Uncle Mike in the pants holster Magnum PI style (in the back) ha. But it's just not comfortable there seated in the rig so I just tuck it between the seat and console. If I'm by myself I use the passanger side. I take it to go and never leave it in the rig so just don't feel the need for something like a bolt on holster or car safe.

Druss - I already saw that Titan link when I was on amazon a while ago, but I'm leaning toward that particular product as it gives you the option to deadbolt it on the floor of your 4R. If I do order the gun safe, I am thinking of installing it under the driver's seat. Of course I will have to do some test runs to see how difficult it is to open and close the gun safe. The reason for this is that the gun safe would be hidden away from view (unless the passenger behind me hits the gun safe with their feet, but then I doubt they'll actually check under the seat to see what it is) to reduce chances of shady individuals seeing the safe from the outside (despite my 20% tint, you can somewhat see through inside). I would only use the gun safe to store my gun in when I'm away from the vehicle at places that doesn't allow weapons inside or at a friend's house (common...do you really need to bring a handgun when hanging out with a bunch of friends at your house? it's a different story if your friend lives in an area that's known to have various crimes). I would definitely buy a sweet holster where I can install it inside center compartment in case I have to use the handgun in an emergency.


Whoever said I needed to replace my glock...have no fear, I have plans to replace my handgun in the future!

i do have tint, but its legal.
owning a 4runner, most people dont look down upon me haha, and my knee is usually there anyway.

now, in az you dont have to have a permit, anyone can carry concealed. but however, when i do get pulled over, i just keep my hands on the steering wheel, and when he approaches i dont move my hands til i make him aware of my firearm and its location. usually theyre calm, because youre calm. mutual respect. i am wanting to go into LE and have a few friends in LE and i have made sure to take all the advice they give. i also have a sticker on my back window that notifies them.


i will say tho, i have it for emergencies only. its more so its comfortable to drive with. i will more than likely never draw while in my drivers seat. for if you are in your vehicle ready to go, then more than likely you could avoid the situation all together. thus you will be in the wrong and have some serious penalty coming for you haha. make sense?

Skip biometrics. None of the biometric readers are quick or reliable, unless you want to go for a veinal scanner which is $1000 in parts.

Get something with a key or a simplex lock, and realize the limitations in security that it presents.

Totally, dude. I'm guessing LE stands for Law Enforcement (...had to google that particular abbreviation before creating this post!) ? I live in Virginia & I attend Virginia Tech. So here in the state of Virginia, you are required by law to obtain a permit for your handgun if you want your weapon concealed on your body in public places. I've never been pulled over before with my handgun on me, but I did have plans to inform the officer I had a weapon on board if I ever got pulled over. Only because he would know that I care for my safety & his safety as well. Plus I'd like some brownie points in hopes of getting out of a ticket if I told the officer about the weapon on board if I was pulled over for a traffic infraction!!

I have it for emergencies, too. However, lets say you're held at gun point in a parking garage where the robber comes up to you on your driver's side where you're parked in front of a cement wall on the 3rd floor in the parking garage. It's kind of hard to "GO" when you have to change gears into reverse & hopefully don't hit anyone while backing up (excluding the robber, of course I hope he would get real hurt in the process of me backing up!!). I'm definitely going to use my weapon in a case of emergency, though. I'm mentally prepared to shoot to wound, or if absolutely necessary; shoot to kill. I don't understand about the penalty part, though. Of course anyone would get in trouble for displaying their handgun during a case of road rage or anything like that, but I shouldn't be afraid to use my handgun while in my vehicle if I feel like my life is in danger. I think I would rather wound/kill someone than getting robbed. If I get charged for whatever reason because I defended myself against a weakling, then by all means charge me. I will have my day in court. I would also display my gun and use it if another shooting takes place anywhere in the US..we all have the right to bear arms & to protect ourselves & others from those who threatens our safety. Sorry for a long rant, I was just busy watching Tebow do his thing in OT where he threw a passing TD in OT. Tebow time!


Edit: I currently have a 20% tint front & 2% rear, but I have plans to replace 20% with 2% in the future.

by all means i would defend myself if theres no where to go as well.

but, if you had the opportunity to leave, and you choose to stay and fire, then youre at fault. but thats common sense.
