I have searched all the posts and cannot find where anyone is having problems with pairing a Verizon iPhone 4s with a 2012 4Runner that does not have nav or display audio. It use to pair just fine until the phone upgraded to 6.0.1OS now it won't pair. I have a older iPod and it has paired just fine. I am guessing it has something to do with the new system but I called Apple and they said I need to upgrade my system in the vechicle. Is this sounding familar to anyone? I am crazy? Am I going to have to use a cable?

I had this same problem when my phone upgaded to 6.0. I grabbed the manual and went through the steps a few times and nothing. After doing this 2 days in a row with no success, I rebooted my iphone and disconnected the battery cables on the 4r for a few and reconnected. I tried again and it paired.
I had the same issue and couldn't get it to pair correctly. Here's what I did and it worked. IMHO it has/had something to do with the phone being paired with multiple devices.
Delete all the items currently paired with the iPhone
--General>Bluetooth>Choose Devices Paired>Forget this device
Perform a reset of your iPhone--hold top button and main button until the "Apple Logo" shows up, then release.
Once done, re-pair your phone to the vehicle following the instructions in the manual.
