Hard(ish) Start

One of the things I loved most about the '86 4Runner I had years ago was how easy it started. I could get in, and no matter how cold it was, all I had to do was flick the key to 'start' and it'd fire right up. I've done that to countless other cars since then, and none start up the same way.

My new 4Runner (87) will start like that when the engine is warm, but when it's cold, I have to crank the engine for quite some time for it to start. I'm wondering what might be the cause of this, as I loved the reliable 'fire right up' attitude that I'm used to.
