Hard to find Specs, Info & Measurements on 231mm 13WL Tundra Calipers & Rotors

Does anyone know if the 231 mm calipers will clear the FJ 80 wheels? I searched and some people said yes and some said no.

you don't need much spacer to clear those wheels.

Quick and easy solution for the time being are some regular washers from the hardware store.

At that point wouldn't it be easier to take the grinder and shave a bit of the caliper?

I have been planning on doing this mod for some time (stockers are pulsating more than Paris Hilton on a Saturday night) and there is so much information out there on this mod (much good, some not so good) that it can be overwhelming as to what will and will not work.

I have the 231mm calipers and rotors sitting in my closet waiting to get installed, any of you guy have recommendations on steel braided brake lines? I see a lot of people that is running wheeler off road or toytec, are there other brands out there that is affordable?

So I remember seeing this somewhere, but what year FJ master cylinder can we use to be paired up with the tundra brakes? Mine is 190k old and it got messed up bleeding my brakes, so I might as well upgrade while I replace right?

Because I don't pay Photobucket for unlimited bandwidth.

Too many people use the writeups in a given month, and the pictures go dead until my monthly bandwidth limit resets.

^^^^man I was unaware about the photobucket thing, I too was curious why I was no longer able to see the pictures.

I spent the last two weeks reading the write up, looking at pictures, making sure part numbers are correct and so on.

Just want to say thank you so much for the time you spent on making sure anyone can do this mod. I just finished mine today, we'll actually I need to bleed tomorrow. First side took 3hours, other side took twenty minutes....lol

I went with factory rotor, pads, with napa eclipse calipers, started to bleed and the cheap bleeding screw broke off!!! WTF!!!

So tomorrow off to toyota for new ones and will probably try and return caliper if not then I get to buy a new one ;(

All in all it's a very easy mod, I did the mod myself so with the money I saved I got a dewalt cordless impact wrench very awesome and saved some ratchet time!!

So, I'll admit that I didn't read every post of every page of this thread but what would be a better option for me; I have stock 16 rims and I need brakes but I'm pretty sure they won't fit. So would wheel spacers be a good idea or can I just grind the caliper down enough? I don't have enough cash right now to get new brakes AND rims but in a few weeks I'll be towing a trailer about 1400 miles and I don't want to end up driving off a cliff because I couldn't stop. Or would it just be better to get new stock brakes for now and upgrade later?

If you still have the same wheels (split 3 spoke) as what is shown in your My Garage pics, just go with the 199 size - they will fit.

Yes I do. I just don't want to hate myself down the road when I upgrade my rims and know that I could go with the bigger brakes. How do they compare to each other?

Aren't you buying the rims from San Diego? You should buy those, then do your brake swap! Better to look cool with no brakes! Lol just joking on da no brakes

Haha. That is exactly what I want... But I can't afford em right now. Figured I could do brakes first but if I can't do the bigger size I may just do another round of crappy OEM brakes to tide me over. I'm really curious if wheel spacers would solve my problem or not because I could always just sell them later when I get the new rims.

After reading the whole thread (takes awhile), I read here that If I use 1.25 Spidertrax Wheel spacers then they should fit my Split 3 rims. I figure that I'll go this route and I'll either love my 231's or die because they didn't work out. Lol.

Just did the Tundra Brake Upgrade - soooo worth it

When I was searching for parts, the pics in this thread were not available to view so I could not see the part numbers.

As a reference for the 231mm upgrade -

OEM Tundra rotors, Part # 43512-0C011

OEM Tundra brake pads (these are not the ceramic pads), Part # 04465-35290

OEM Tundra shims, Part# 04945-35120

I used NAPA reman'd calipers

Tundra 13WL (231mm) Calipers (my 2nd brake upgrade)

Thanks for the write up and parts information, very helpful. I used NAPA Eclipse calipers (13WL 2006 Tundra) and Toyota pads/shims and rotors.

The only concern I had during the upgrade was about the stock 4Runner brake hard line working with 13WL (231mm) caliper (conical seat). It worked, after 1 week no issues or leaks. I have a 97 4Runner SR5 with stock 16" six spoke wheels. I'm using a 5mm (1/4") spacer on the front wheels. I plan to get some wheels in the future that fit without spacers.

BTW: I had done the Turndra 199mm (13WE) upgrade about 4 years ago (reluctant to cut dust shields - turns out not a big deal). The 199m upgrade was better than stock 4Runner brakes, but not a full solution for towing trailer of dirt bikes over Colorado mountains. Look forward to the better braking with 13WL (231mm) calipers.
