Hard to find Specs, Info & Measurements on 231mm 13WL Tundra Calipers & Rotors

Anybody have a pic of the 231 or 199 calipers vs the OEM Sport calipers? I forgot Sports had bigger ones and had major rubbing on my new wheels when I installed them, despite seeing people saying they'd work (must've had base models). Curious how much I'll need to space out if/when I upgrade - I REALLY enjoy how much backspacing I have right now and would like to keep going out further to a minimum, but I'm gonna be due for brakes very soon anyways and figured might as well upgrade, especially with running extra weight+steelies

Here is something i found digging about the same issue about soft pedal feel, maybe this will shed some light for you.

Regarding the TBU for base model 4Runners, I wanted to make a comment about pedal effort.

Your brake system is a hydraulic lever. The master cylinder has a 1" diameter piston and the effective area of the calipers and wheel cylinders it much greater, approximately 20:1 This is analogous to mechanical leverage (pull on a 1" wrench vs. a 20" long wrench).

The hydraulics don't care how big the caliper or the rotors are, only the size of the pistons. 4Runners with 15" wheels had calipers with 43mm pistons (S12xx casting) but 16" wheelers had 45mm pistons (S13xx casting). The 199mm and 231mm Tundra calipers both has the 45mm pistons. So if you upgrade from an S13xx to another S13xx casting caliper your hydraulic advantage has not changed.

I'll spare you the math, but I found that going from S12 to S13 calipers and from 15/16" to 1" wheel cylinders increases the hydraulic leverage by 10%. I found, even after thorough bleeding, that the pedal is softer. Not spongy, but just that it takes less force to actuate the brakes. This is why, the lever is 10% longer.

I have a set of calipers and rotors from a 2006 Lexus GX 470.
The stamp on the calipers is 13WH. Is this set up going to fit a 99 $Runner?
I don't think it will, but i got them for free.

Those should be larger diameter rotors with further spaced out calipers. Hose mount is probably different angle as well.

I suspect they would fit but you’d need the right 17” wheels to clear them.

Probably not worth the effort.

Does ALL SCS rims models on this page fit??? TOYOTA – STEALTH CUSTOM SERIES™

I have the 231 Tundra brake upgrade. 5100 Bilstein shocks all around w/ OME 881 front and 906 rear
P265/70R16 Michelin Costco Tires. I want new wheels where I don't have to use a spacer/have rubbing/etc.

The size should be 16x8 w/ 6 lugs so I narrowed it down to these 2 at least for the F5 Series but I have no clue which one to get with the BACKSPACING/OFFSET and everything being confusing to me.

What should I know?!

When you replace the calipers it would be a good time to flush the brake fluid before changing calipers. I'd also change your soft brake lines in the front. You may need wheel spacers to clear the larger calipers.

Incredible post. Many thanks to you sir. I question I have. With such a tight fit using the 231mm vs the 199mm, would wheel weights have to be mounted in the outside of the rim instead of the sticky weights on the inside? I plan on doing this upgrade, but don't want to re-balance my new tires and freshly painted 5 spoke "flower" stock 16" rims.

I don't know if that wheel fits, but it's been mentioned before that you can check on Pro Comps website to see if that wheel fits a 05 Tundra/Sequoia. That will tell you if it works.

Just looked at the website and it only says "Universal Fitment" without confirming it fits an 05 Tundra. Even after I entered the vehicle. But the idea is still good, I'll just email them directly to ask if the Bandidos I mention would fit a Tundy.

Just finished this mod on my 2000 4runner. Thanks for all the info.

Ended up rebuilding the calipers myself. Dont know why I sat on this mod without installing it for a while. But it's done now and works great.

Bleeding the brakes with a pressure bleeder made this job super easy. Pedal is nice and firm. Brakes are much better now. Bedding the brakes went smoothly and stinky.

Next up is the rear disc swap and new wheel bearings. But that's for another day.

kind of an update
so I bought a 4runner in june of 2021. It had at one time been an enthusiast car. Its a highlander and had some very slight mods To my surprise it had the TBU...but prob low budget cheap stuff. So I drive in harsh environements...lots of hills...and my rotors are now warped. It is most noticeable when going down hill...which I have to ride my brakes...often having to shift down to 2nd gear in 4wd as often driving in snow amd/or ice covered roads. Now that the snow and ice are going away ( except first and last 1/2 mile to leave or get home) I can go faster....if not for the now brake pulse of rotors. Anyway...if doing the TBU....dont go cheap on rotors. And from talking to people up here....drilled or slotted rotors are junk....as they just fill with mud, snow, grit....but thats here in Alaska on gravel/mud/snow roads in winter ( 7 months a year) and could be just talk.
I just ordered Toyota rotors. And if you go on ebay....you can get toyota rotors, from a toyota dealer....cheaper(including shipping) then I can get aftermarket at NAPA ( thier better ones)
there are lots of good sources for toyota parts...I use lots of them.( rarely ebay or amazon for real toyota stuff)..shipping for rotors is not cheap ( weight) thus my ebay choice who said free shipping... I can get both rotors. and pads, all yota...for less than rotors and pads at napa. Autozone and others are junk but maybe good for mall crusiers, flat landers and city folk
