Hard transmission lines and steel braided hose...?

Hi all! I am working on the external oil cooler mod, and decided to run steel braided lines since I had some extra and it will avoid any rubbing issues. The steel braided lines are -6AN, and fits the cooler and the inline filter, but absolutely will not push on to the hard lines that come from the transmission. When I really put some push behind it, the steel started opening up like in the attached picture.

I know that -6AN isn't exactly 3/8 inner diameter, but it fits all of the other connections. Tightly, but at least it'll go on. Anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

Steel braided wrap doesn't have enough give in it to allow the hose to go over the flare on the transmission cooler hard lines.

Alright, just looking for confirmation, I suppose. I have seen the adapters to make hard line into an AN connection, but those aren't for the hard line flares that are on the end.
