Hard wiring dash cam?

Just for a lighted switch though, right? These don't pull much, you can have more that you'll want

The compressor that I ran the piggy back for is to cut off power when the ignition is off. I mounted the toggle switch next to the compressor under the hood. Otherwise I have the larger red and black wires going to the battery.
I think this is what you asked?

So it's just for the relay, that's a negligible load

12v to 5v?

What are you guys using to step the 12-14v down to 5v when hard-wiring to your fuse panel? I found a couple converter boxes on Amazon, but are they really necessary? Do most dashcams accept 13+ volts?

any reason not to use a kit like the power magic pro? I know it may seem more expensive but its clean and easy to route/hookup with a couple fuse taps

5v USB is more common than 12V, hardwire kits should be about $10

$10 Spy Tec Mini USB Dash Cam 10 Foot Hardwire Kit http://a.co/hmWnFdF

they also have micro USB and kits that include the fuse tap

if you want an always-on dash then ^that power magic pro kit is good, but if you are using a switched supply you just need the $10 kit. the power magic pro kit is too bulky if you don't need the voltage protection for always-on
