Hardwired Radar Detector

Was wondering if you ever figured out the wire tap to the mirror. Just bought a 2020 after trading my 2016. No place to plug the wire tap. Really don't want to hard wire to fuse box under the hood but will if I have to.

I've been waiting since November for someone to post some instructions. I havent removed anything. Have the mount up and ready.

I just redid my radar detector hardwiring yesterday because I didn't like that I couldn't put the cover back on, over the fuses, with an Add-A-Circuit in place. (I'll re-deploy that wiring in another car I have.)

Anyway, I tapped into the mirror's power. It was very simple. I have a 2020 SR5 Premium. There are two plastic covers concealing electronics on the windshield behind the mirror. The thin cover directly above the mirror's mount slides up (parallel to the glass) and comes off to reveal a connector with only two wires (one white-with-black-stripe, the other blue). I used the black tap lead to tap into the white-with-black-stripe wire. I used the red tap lead to tap into the blue wire. I verified that I had 12V of power and that it turned on/off with the ignition.

The mirror tap I used had two sets of leads with different size pins. I used the small pins and capped off the other pair with the included caps and then wrapped them up with electrical tape to keep them out of the way. This is the Mirror Plug Wire Tap that I used:

There are a few comments about people stripping the screws on this mount. There's a workaround, if you do strip them, but I found that the mount holds well without having to over-tighten. Easy does it.

I bought a printed extended fuse panel on Etsy I think. Worked perfectly. I’ll see if I can find that link.

Hey, I really need your help. I have bought the two pieces you mentioned but cannot find the plug you were referring to. I slided down the plastic piece but there is only a thick wire under that. Here is the picture I took. Could you please help with where to insert the small wire tips you mentioned?

My V1 gen 2 tucks the wire right in there too. If I recall correctly, I used an add a fuse and a ground behind the drivers side kick panel.

Thanks for the install tips and pics. I am wondering if anyone is running the RD in the dimpled area of the windshield above the mirror? I was worried about lowered sensitivity due to the obstruction of the dot pattern.
