Has anybody done Plasti-dip on the door handles?

How well did they hold up? How many coats did it take?

I have chrome door handles and they are cracking real bad. I have a Blizzard White 2011 and I was thinking of doing a white plasti-dip on them.

i plasti-dipped mines this pass weekend,just have to see how well it holds up.you can check it out on my build thread.

Yes. Holds up fine. 5-7 coats on mine... Light coats. Make sure you get all of the angles evenly (behind the handle is the hardest) otherwise the thin area will wear through and create a peel (I learned the hard way)

I expect I'll have to redo eventually but 10 months in and multiple in / outs every day (traveling sales) and bad weather has yet to require a redo.

you can get away with not spray painting that top and bottom.. can't really tell. Thats what i did with mine... It looked good until it started falling apart

Haven't heard great things about white plasti-dip over the years, specifically with how well the color holds up before fading (especially on an area that'll get alot of attention with grabbing and touching).

Have you looked into replacing them?

I replaced mine with the black ones from a 2010-2013 Trail. Cost about $150 for all 4.

Holds up well. Just need 5-6 coats. Should last at least 4 years before touch up

It's several different part numbers. I'll post them when I get to my computer that has the receipt on it.

Replacing them isn't bad as long as you are ok with removing and reinstalling the door panels. There is a write up on here somewhere that was very helpful.

Ok thanks. Door panels will be coming off soon for speakers, so I may look into this also.

Nope, SR5 premium with a bunch of trail parts.

Not very well but passably.

I decided not to remove the door panel and pull the handles off so I did what I could with the space I had.

I taped the handles at the 12 and 6 o'clock positions and the outside edges and then got the back as best I could. I repeated 5-7 times.

Once dried, I removed the tape and then taped where I had just applied the coats. I repeated 5-7 coats on the outside.

The handle in total got 5-7 coats and there is a slight seam where the overlap occurred from the taping, but so far its holding up better than a light spray to the back which peeled when I first tried it.
