Has anyone changed the interior colors of headliner and top trim panels?

I dont know Black Rit Dye how it works. You suppose to soak in water with Dye?

Dupon color has fabric paint, I think that's easier then Dye if you have to soak in water.

I like this idea even better. is this a rattle can product?

Mutant's comment about introducing new creeks and rattles struck a chord... Nearly every plastic cover I've pulled off once or twice never seems to fully seat the way it used to and I hear the rattles. I'm sure there are ways to remedy this but I'm not sure how avoidable it is.

Also, be prepared to break clips here and there.

Really think about whether or not it is worth it to you OP to take things apart, as it is always harder to put back in and is never the same. Especially the headliner. I recently sound deadened the rear and it was an absolute b**ch to put the panels back in. Lots of clips broken and had to replace. Also from my experience - add fender flares to that list too lol.

You should just ban this habitual instigator. Grip here said it himself he just does it for the laughs. Which is cute because he doesn’t do it in any of the local Facebook groups because it’s got his real name and pictures on the account.

It’s not hard to be civil but it takes effort to constantly bring negativity to the forum. This guy clearly has nothing better to do with his time so maybe it’s time he finds another forum to play internet badass on.

Just occurred to me if you had to get under the headliner for something else... I would see much greater value in this mod. I would really like to see someone Guinea pig this.

Zero effort sir. I spend 1-5 min a few times a week looking at these dead forums.

The forms aren’t dead, there are are still useful discussions going on and I have done several quick and cheap upgrades to my old ass truck with information I found on this forum just within the last two or three weeks.

If you’re patient and search well, they are also helpful for do it yourself maintenance and quick fixes for common problems.

My comment about the headliner still stands, you’re only inviting evil by messing with it and I promise you it will never fail.

Personally don't think it's worth the effort but I wished it was blacked out myself.

The entire interior will be coming out regardless, so I may as well kill two birds with one stone.
Seats, floor carpet, headliner.... door skins. Everything.

Might be a PIA but I definitely wish the headliner was black to match the rest of the interior.

Nah. I use sound damping materials in a few past vehicles.
I actually ENJOY ripping apart the interior for some reason.

Plus there is some aftermarket audio going in...

I've done more than a few sound damping installs, and in all of those, only two clips broke as they were older vehicles.
The clips Toyota uses are actually "good".

Just a lil delicate finesse is needed for different type of clips.
And I will be isolating the headliner from the metal skin.

When this all happens, I'll post the pics.
I need to time things right so I only have to take the interior out once.

As all the wires are being run, the damping materials installed, I may dye the panels and liner.

I looked at a few videos of the RIT dying of plastic.
(The headliner is the simple part but was seeking ideas)
Others that do spray paint all fail to mention heating up the cans in hot/boiling water for a little bit.
(Increases pressure in the can, thins most products, and leaves a better finish than cold)

I see them all turning out a hack job based on my standards.

PLASTIDIP for the trim?
I am thinking, spray paint will get scratched, then if you paint over, you see the scratch. So the prep work to respray adds more work.

Since the pieces would have to come out to be spray painted anyway, Plasti-Dip can be peeled off and re-coated with ease.

What I am seeing on YT doesn't look good.
Maybe because they are using poor quality plastic in their demos, but I am seeing a lot of blotching even with the acetone they are using.

Toyota really dumbfounds me at times.

I guess I can run to a junkyard and grab a random piece of interior trim or three and test out some methods.

A lot of is is application though.
I have not heard one of them mention getting the cans hot prior to application.

So if they don't know this simple trick, it is safe to assume they really have no idea what they are doing as far as painting, resulting in poor results.

I have not even seen the spray paint method users using plastic primer.

Nothing about a prep bath to clean the residues off the plastic...
