Has anyone ever had a dispute/confrontation because their 4Runner is made in Japan?

A lot of union parking lots have signs saying that cars not made in America aren't welcome. Beyond that, a confrontation could happen anywhere. I was renting a car once and the lady in front of me was returning a Honda that she had just rented because when she got it home and her husband saw it he made her take it back because he wouldn't ride in a Japanese car. That's not anything major, but still....

Just wondering if anyone has a story to tell.

I’m sure that sign, and most of the junk sold in the store of the business in that parking lot, is made in China or some other cheap labour country. The American consumer, and economy in general, sold itself out a long ass time ago. Everyone is in a never ending quest to buy the cheapest junk possible. Personally, I am willing to pay moderately higher prices for more locally made goods.... and the more Trump tweets, the more my inclination to do so increases. So, I guess it goes both ways. If you don’t want to buy their junk, then don’t expect them to buy yours either.

That guy is a moron! Most Honda’s are made in this country and are more American than a lot of the “domestics.” The number one American made vehicle with the highest percentage of domestic parts and made is the good ole USA??? Yup....Toyota Camry according to Forbes. It’s a global economy.

UAW might actually have that in their laws. Ive never been in a confrontation, but I live in Florida (right to work). Im in the stage hand union here, and I suspect that rule might be against Florida law if it was implemented.

Speaking of the UAW parking lots, back in college I got to go on a tour of the GM plant in Arlington, TX. When I was there with my class all of the close up and convenient parking spots were reserved for GM branded vehicles only.

I work for a union factory that makes Off The Road tires. Nobody has said shit about my Japanese truck running Chinese tires. I plan on getting American Tires when the tires that came on it wear out, but not getting rid of a reliable vehicle because of where I work. Besides, the tires we build are way too big to fit on a Toyota anyway.

Nissan rebranded themselves as Datsun for a while, for this reason. American WWII vets wouldn't buy a vehicle branded as "Nissan" due to memories of EoJ planes powered by Nissan engines engaging Americans.

That's actually objectively reasonable for the era. Fast forward 70 years and it's not.
