Has anyone ever heard of doing this?

Ok so I'm still relatively new to the 4Runner world. I got my 91 Runner about a year ago and hit the trails immediately. I have gone thru some crazy mud holes, and love slinging some mud. Out in my stomping grounds here in Southern Ga I have encounter some water puddles that should be called lakes, and this is where my question comes in. I was told due to depth and length of water I go thru I should put some tubing on my axle vents to raise it higher so I do not flood the axle. I didn't know that was possible, but it was said from someone I trust, and I don't think he would BS me. Has anyone on here ever hear of doing that. Please let me know. Thank you.

Trail gear makes a little billow that will screw into your axle. But will only work in the rear, due to limited space in your front end. But you should extend your front breather also. There is also one on top of your transmission, but that isnt as common to do.

This one is on the rear axle of my 92:

Scrolly to the bottom: Pickup and 4Runner Axle Housings | Toyota, Suzuki Samurai, and Jeep Off Road Parts

Or you can just run a hose higher with some sort of filter on the end.

If you plan on submerging your axles alot, plan on servicing your front wheel bearings at least once a year to make sure there isnt water in them. As well as keeping everything greased up (balljoints, driveshafts etc.)

Hope that helps.

I thought the front diff and transmission came with extended breathers from the factory, or was that just the 3rd gens?
