What about the 2014+ LR2?
Reliability-wise, that is
I'd feel as manly getting into an LR2 as I would a Honda Ridgeline...no thanks.

Now I'm starting a bit of a debate on an SR5 vs Trail, both non premium, both non-KDSS but with Nav and Entune app suite. I am not doing KDSS since I'm immediately swapping out the suspension...either Bilstein 5100 or OME.
Ditto. I've got about 3 months driving time in an LR2, although not the 2014. It's a nice enough crossover and I like the way it drives. Can't see paying what it costs to get one. And at the risk of offending, it doesn't feel like a "real" Rover to me. It seems to have similar traction control as the LR3 and LR4, which is quite good. But it's more mainstream to drive. I like them. Better value for the money is maybe a Honda Pilot?I'd feel as manly getting into an LR2 as I would a Honda Ridgeline...no thanks.
Have to say it kind of depends on the car, what's been done, and if you're willin to do some repairs yourself. If you get a Disco that recently had head gaskets done you're likely in pretty good shape, considering they cost nothing. An LR3 with all the big known issues already fixed likely gets you 80K of relatively trouble free driving. More risk there, and harder to find.Owning a RR with no warranty and 100k on the odo - fvcking nuts.

Unlike the XREAS system on the Limited, the KDSS on the Trial will work with nearly any aftermarket suspension system; to include 5100 and OME. If that's your only reason for not going with KDSS, just thought you should know.
Depends how much risk you want to take on to get into a particular car. The drivetrain is solid on the L322, but little things here and there could drive you crazy. I didn't pay nearly what it was new, so the tradeoff is having to deal with certain things out of warranty for an inexpensive entry into that market.
Nope, no different than a regular sway bar as far as lifting goes.Yes but doesn't it make a lift more difficult? Since I am definitely going with some sort of 2.5 or 3" lift, I want my installer to be comfortable with doing it rather than having to fight around the KDSS.
It can be a PITA, I spent a lot of time and busted knuckles when I first installed my lift. I have removed/reinstalled it a dozen times now, so it only takes me 5 minutes with this method:Ok I was just reading some other threads where the lift with the KDSS was a pain using straps to try and reconnect the sway bars and so forth.
Also, my salesman said Toyota is not building non premium Trails with KDSS, anyone know if this is true?
I used to brag about that road, but after seeing this....![]()
That's the key point. Rovers depreciate off a cliff after a few years. You have to know what you're getting into and what issues to expect. More importantly, what issues have already been fixed. Having access to a good Rover-specific mechanic is key also.Depends how much risk you want to take on to get into a particular car. Not true. Sales regions (not Toyota) determine what they will/won't sell - options wise.
Put your zip code into the Toyota.com builder, and try to build a TE w/KDSS. If the option does not appear, your region has determined not to sell that configuration. I'm in that same boat in IL.
Now do it with a Denver zip, and you'll see that Toyota does indeed build it - for that Region - because they want to sell it. Lots of members travel to get what they want.
It's slightly possible your salesguy does not even know better, but you bet yer arse they aren't going to tell you this.

Well, how's that for hijinks, my salesguy was actually correct, he just stated it wrong. The KDSS option doesn't appear in my area (CT). Why would they not offer KDSS with a non premium? Logic says supply and demand, but any other reason? The rigid nature of regions and Toyota is kind of bothering me...would it kill Toyota to allow someone to buy a TEP without sunroof?
In fact, the only package I get is:
Entune™ Premium Audio with Navigation and App Suite 12 with options | $250. This includes rigid running boards which I absolutely despise...is there a way to delete this? Or do I need to go outside of my region?
Go outside of your region if you want something different. Lots of guys do that. jhoss wnt to NC form Texas to get his. Mine came with running boards and I took them off as soon as I got home. Took about 10 minutes. I then put them in the for sale section here and sold them pretty quick.
