LR has come a long way by building many of its models on Ford platforms - which are in turn really last generation Mazda and Volvo engineered products. Even 3 days per year can be a lot though. I think the days of free - you tow it away - Discoverys are over. If you live or travel in remote areas - particularly those without cell signal, reliability is still a big issue even if it's only a few break downs per year. I don't really see that as a big issue anymore as LRs in the USA are all crossovers anyway. They aren't likely to be going anywhere you can't walk to a starbucks and get a coffee while you wait for a tow truck.
I spent the last 2 weeks driving around northern Europe in a '14 Evoque Dynamic. Seemed like a nice little urban crossover. I really like the panoramic roof. I'd love to have that on my runner instead of the sunroof, but with a removable glass panel that you'd leave at home on sunny days. OTOH, in comparison I wouldn't consider trading our RX for one. RX has more hp, same mpg - little LR didn't get very good mpg, nicer fit and finish and interior quality. But this is really a different segment.
