Has anyone made a cabin holster for their pistol?

Serious question from up here in Canada, and I'm not dissing or judging anybody, all of whom are free to do as they see fit within the law:

Other than "because I can under the Second", and unless they were a prospector, rancher, or trapper or other person who might encounter dangerous wildlife, why would a civilian feel the need to carry a loaded handgun in their car or on their person?

Because human beings are more dangerous than any animal that a prospector, rancher, trapper has ever encountered.

Signed Ripsnort, who has had a weapon pulled on him 4 times and shot at in 2 of those incidences. :hello:

Unfortunate, but true. I spent a short time in law enforcement before going full time army and had a chance to see just how many of bad guys in our communities are carrying firearms. If they've got them, then I'll keep mine.

I view a gun just like a view a seat belt: always wear it, and pray you never need it.

Funny, I think if you look back at a few similar threads from a 6 months ago, it was usually a Canadian who asked this same type question. Not judging either person, but just observing the difference between the cultures.

Another Canuck here but I gotta ask ... what are you doing to have a weapon pulled on you 4 times? :jaw drop:

Are you a peace officer? If you're John Q.Public "making a stand" against the excrement of society, you'll eventually find yourself out-gunned. In the interests of self-preservation, maybe it's time to consider moving.

Fobus holsters in all my center consoles, easy to reach, good quality pieces. Mount is easy.

At least until the Republik of Kalifornia begins to search all cars since the Democrats here seem to enjoy denying us our 2nd Amendment rights. Last I checked we have a 30 day wait to buy a water pistol :gun4:

In case I happen to drive up and encounter dangerous wildlife on the Co-ner....:uzi:

Here in the USA, our Supreme Court has decided that it is NOT the police's responsibility to "protect" citizens. It is merely the police's responsibility to "respond" to citizens' requests for assistance. I take it in Canada it IS the responsibility of the police to protect each citizen?

USSC Decisions:

-In Warren v. District of Columbia (1981), the D.C. Court of Appeals ruled, official police personnel and the government employing them are not generally liable to victims of criminal acts for failure to provide adequate police protection... a government and its agents are under no general duty to provide public services, such as police protection, to any particular citizen.

-In Bowers v. DeVito (1982), the Seventh Circuit Court of Appeals ruled,[T]here is no constitutional right to be protected by the state against being murdered by criminals or madmen.

-Castle Rock v. Gonzales, 545 U.S. 748 (2005), was a case decided by the Supreme Court of the United States, in which the court ruled, 7-2, that a town and its police department could not be sued under 42 U.S.C.§1983 for failing to enforce a restraining order, which had led to the murder of a woman's three children by her estranged husband.

Always remember, when seconds count, the police is only minutes away.

People ask what am I afraid doing concealed carry, and my response is nothing. Better to have and not need, then need and not have... To each their own!

No, I'm not a police officer or military. Each circumstance was sheer bad luck and "Wrong place at the wrong time" in each incident.
In 3 instances it involved drunks (I was a bartender for 6 years) and once was an angry teenager.

You realize that Canada has over twice the rate of rape and violent crime (armed robbery, assault, etc.) per 100,000 than the USA, right? Why do you think that is? Why do you think that almost 50% of break-ins in BC happen in occupied houses? Why do you think it's less than 5% in Virginia?

And why do you think that Australia and the UK have near three times that rate?

Feel free to double check that against the StatsCan and FBI databases, they're public.

Maybe because the most effective tool for self defense, especially for the fairer sex, the handicapped, and the elderly, is being denied. Australia and the UK go one step further, in fact in the UK they recently jailed a 70 year old man who used his walking cane to defend himself during a violent robbery.

You might conclude that Canada, the UK, and Australia all hold the raped and murdered woman as morally superior to the one who used a firearm to defend herself.

Food for thought.

As my wife recently said: "if only one person in Norway had a gun on them there may not have been 76 dead people on that island"...

A lot of "western" societies demonize gun as being inherently bad. A gun is a tool like a hammer, screw driver or crowbar (all of which will kill a person just as easily); it's the user of the tool that uses is for the right or wrong purpose.

In that context, a law abiding citizen with the appropriate permits and/or qualifications should not be questioned for intent or demonized for exuding their civil right in carrying a firearm.

On the fringe of this argument you could also point out that most anti-gun societies are largely socialistic with high levels of nanny-state control. The US, and other countries like Israel for instance, where people are more self-reliant and so far less affected by senses of entitlement and "others will take care of me" mentalities. Are more realistic about the tool and it's usage because they see it as a means to defend themselves and their neighbors; not as a harbinger of danger or crime.

Its a freedom thing ;) Many use Self Defense / Sport / etc. as reasons but the 2nd has nothing to do with these. The main question is who has the ultimate power - the people or .gov? Our Founders decided it will be the people and added the 2A as the method to make sure it stays that way. Others may be fine having Kings / Queens and .gov having absolute power over them but we roll a bit differently.

Yeah for Canada for having no fear of trouble that most countries have. But before you guys get too self righteous remember that its easy to leave your doors unlocked when living next door to the police station.

Then I guess I'm Canadian because I feel the same way these Canucks do. Remember that there are varying views within every culture.

Very true. Then again, you're from CA...so that explains everything!!

(kidding of course -- no harm meant) :biggrin2:

As a guy I listen to on radio would say, my being armed isn't really your problem unless you intend to harm me.

Having recently moved from about 20miles outside of Oakland, I would say I am familiar with the mindset and the high crime rate that goes along with it.

While the FF may have had that intent, for practical purposes the population is unarmed. Watch any video of the gunships taking out armed-to-the-teeth resistance in Iraq and Afghanistan and it will quickly become obvious that our federal government would be able to decimate any resistance with a simple phone call to the local Governor, who then calls in the National Guard. Simply put, hand guns, semi-automatic rifles, and shot guns are no match for a gunner with an infrared camera and depleted uranium slugs.

How come they haven't started cleaning up White Center then? ;)
