Has anyone tried a cheep HUD like the X5 to display things like coolant temp, mph, et

In theory this should display the coolant temp of the PCM instead of the sensor that drives the needle in the dash. Is 25 dollars or so. Beats buying another ScanGauge just to be able to see the real engine temp.

Alternatively, you could go onto Amazon and buy a $5 or $10 dollar OBD2 bluetooth adapter and download the app "Torque Lite" to view all of the same temperatures on your phone, as well as log data for later review.

I have plenty of scanning software. Including torque pro. It was a idea to have something standalone and in line with my front view instead of glancing to the side.

I don't know if anything Defi produces is "cheap" but it's definitely a HUD unit...

Was looking at it and one of the top reviews said this:

This HUD works pretty well. I tried it on several vehicles and had varying levels of success getting it to work. It worked great on the ones that were newer than 2004 like the description says, but not so much on older vehicles (2002). So make sure you are buying this for a 2004+ vehicle. At first I just plugged in the device and had it reflecting on the windshield without the reflector that came in the box. This worked but there was a distinct double image that happened. Once I applied the reflector panel, the double image went away and the brightness of the display increased quite a bit.

All I can figure is that they don't have the older communication protocol for the early OBD2......
