My ‘04 Sport Edition starting experiencing latching problems recently. I would close it hear the motor latch but it won’t stay closed. I have to attempt to close it multiple times for it to close. Please advise...thanks in advance

Any trouble getting it to release (open?)?? Sometimes they just get really grungy and don't operate correctly. Have you tried just a good cleaning and lubrication? Mine was struggling a bit to close (didn't have it pop open though). I scrubbed the latch mechanism with an old toothbrush and hosed it down with silicone. So far it seems to close/open much easier and is quieter. I don't think the motor struggles as much.

Negative, my issues are with the hatch staying closed. I would close it, hear the motorized mechanism close it, but when I get in the light indicator is on. I walk back and can grab and lift the hatch as if it was never closed.

Try closing the hatch as lightly as possible and let the motor closer do the closing. I test drove one once with the same issue and found with a light touch, it would latch but slamming or closing hard would cause it to not latch. We had to try several times before we could get it to latch to test drive. I decided to not purchase so not sure how to correct it but it let us test drive it. It almost seemed like there was an adjustment out of whack that with a hard slam was causing the motor to over tighten and then pop open.

This may sound drastic but I would recommend replacing the motor and mechanism now before it stops working completely mine has been stuck shut for 3 years and will not open I have to use the sliding window or back door to load anything large but even then it can be to large just my opinion.

Had same issue with my 2008 a couple winters ago. Just generously sprayed the latch with WD40, no problems since then.
