Hauling Dirt Bike

I tried searching this but found nothing specific to the 5th gen. so I apologize if someone brought this up before.

I am looking into getting a dirt bike probably a smaller one, 250cc. Does anyone have a hitch rack that they use on their 5th gen to haul a dirt bike? I don't really want to get a true trailer because I don't have room to store it and obviously it's more expensive and hassle.

I have an sr5 and hope to do a set of 5100s soon to help the rear suspension handle the load

Tongue weight might be too much for a hitch carrier.

Search on motorcycle haulers, there are a couple of good threads. I just purchased an AMC-400 single bike hauler from DiscountRamps.com and hope to use it this weekend.

There was a pic floating around of a Honda CBR that fit completely in the back of a RAV4 with the seats down, but it was deleted lol.

I have been using the AMC-600 to haul my F650GS (429lbs Wet) for about 1.5 years have never had an issue. I am continuously checking to make sure nothing looks stressed but haven't seen anything. I have about 1000 miles from highway to fire roads. I am very happy with the purchase.

I used a versahaul type carrier and drove 400 miles last week and did a track day

I installed wireless airbags in rear and did not even know my superduke was back there
Ride great

Gonna Toss a front hitch so I can carry both my bikes at same time

Thanks for the advice, the AMC400 seems like it might be the right choice. I'll try to save up and do the 5100s sooner I guess to give the suspension a little boost.

The Superdukes are sweet, I would like to see a picture of both bikes mounted up like that if you do it!

i never understood how to upload a photo to a forum so i cant share, just yet.

i used to have a defender 90 and i carried a drz and a klx on a double carrier off the back, and another drz up front. it was sweet.

check out the airbags for the rear. they work great. i just load up the bike, use the wireless remote and pump up the airbags and off i go. truck rides awesome that way.

when i got my carrier for the superduke it put the bike too far off the back and i did not like the leverage so i cut the carrier and moved it as close as possible to the truck. you should consider doing teh same depending on how far your carrier sits.

and yes,; the duke is a blast. getting used to it still as was on a ducati hypermotard 1100s for 2 years until the ***** Sandy took it away with all my other toys.
