How did you handle the painted metal inside the doors, at the hinges and such?

Haven't done the door jams yet...probably hit those here in a couple weeks when I get the bug. For now they're still white:embarassed:

Did you use the plasti dip gun or just the rattle cans? I imagine it being a ton of work with the rattle cans. Also, where did you do it? In a shop/garage or outside? I can imagine the bugs trying to ruin it outside. In my experience, wet paint is a sign that says "Land here" to the bugs. :tsk: Looks great by the way.

My buddy used the Earlex Spray gun that DipYourCar.com sells. It worked great until it broke. Trying to do it with the cans alone would be BRUTAL!

We sprayed it in my buddies garage with breathers on and a door open about 16" with a fan pulling air out.

By the way, how did you do the trim around the windows & windshield, did you overspray and rip off the plastidip or did you tape them up? I'm trying to do my 4Runner as well but want to prep correctly before doing so.

We only taped the main surface areas of the windows - we did not tape up the edges or trim on any of the windows or the sunroof.

Make sure you wash it 24 hours before and then wipe it down with alcohol just before you spray. The gun needs to be closer to the surface than what you would think to get a smooth finish. If you're holding it at 12" you can go ahead and expect a finish that looks like Rhino Liner. You have to be at 6-8" it seems to get a smooth application - pretty much the opposite of what I expected.

That looks F'n BadAss! I may look into that, my runner is silver and TBH I'm not too fond of silver and I really like the matt finish. I work for BMW and we have had a few "frozen" cars come in and they look great, plus we wrapped a 3 series in a dark Matt grey and it looked very cool.

Holding up nicely!

A few little rockchips up front, but that's to be expected with any finish. The nice part - I just dabbed a drop on each spot and it kinda melts back into itself and covers the paint again...

I'm quite happy thus far...and due to the color choice - it never looks dirty (or clean depending on your perspective).

Update....I'm currently removing the PD.

No major complaints about it but it's time for a color change and I want a tougher finish so I don't have to worry about tearing a whole in it on trails.

For a street only 4R the PD would be great. But if your 4R sees a lot of gravel roads and off-road time...you'll either need to plan for some resprays or go with something more durable.

PD looked a little lighter than I would have imagined for tan--looked good though. What's the plan on a new coating? Truck sprayed entirely with LineX?

Sooo...my 4R being an '04 and it's previous owner making it live outside has not left me with much of the factory clear coat still on the car.

Not to distract from what you've done it's my understanding from previous posts that the white has no clear coat.

I think that looks absolutely amazing but when I think of PD I just think "temporary". I personally wouldn't spend 400 for something like paint that isn't going to last 10 years, at that point I'd rather spend the extra to get a real paint job done. But seriously, that looks awesome. Excellent job!

The color combo looks great, and about the toyota white, it definitely is clear coated from the factory, unless someone did a respray using single stage enamel.
