I do usually name my vehicles

91 Toyota DLX 4WD pickup - "Tommy" (when I owned it)
2007 VW GTI - "Gabi"
2001 4Runner - "Sylvia"....her full name is "Sylvia, the Silver Sasquatch"

Funny enough, but my wife's car has never been christened with a name. Although she thinks vehicles are strictly transportation and doesn't really like driving and sees it as a chore.

I didn't grow up naming cars. We just said "the van" or "the wagon" etc. My dad went full Volvo once the kids started driving and eventually we ended up with a driveway of 240s and 740s (5 to 6 at any given time). At that point, they got color coded - the white car, the green car, the gold car... That worked well until we got two white 740s. Then it was "the old white car" and "the new white car".

I thought about naming the 4Runner but never felt inspired to, and I'm not going to force a name unless it strikes me. So I just call it "the 4Runner," even if it doesn't exactly roll off the tongue. Or sometimes "the truck" but that feels a bit silly as it isn't precisely a truck and typically I'm driving it to the grocery store... As for the XJ, it's just "the Jeep".

My 4Runner is Thor, my truck is Tyco, and my wife's car is Dr. Charles Nichols, but goes by Charlie.

Mine was named the day after I bought it, when I discovered the crotch vent.

So crotch vent = healthy breeze 'round my privates = Archie

My kids named it "Daddy's new big red truck" to distinguish it from the 88 4Runner which is also red. Both vehicles are "big" when you're pre-K.

But it's usually spoken as a single conglomerate that's something like Daddyoobigedruck

Hah points for getting the reference. Not a BMW though - for whatever reason, the woman I married decided her Accord needed to be named after the bad guy in the Fugitive.

I've learned not to ask "why" questions....

96 4 runner that has survived 3 sons and a wife who drives it every day instead of her new 2019 trd pro is called the "the BEAST" . It has 318,000 miles and has been a road warrior back and forth to work for the wife with zero break downs and trips from Tucson to the white mtns, palm springs, big bear, the sequoia, mammoth mtn, Yosemite, los angeles etc. I think it has earned the name . The 2019 trd pro 4 runner has not been named because at 20k miles it hasn't earned any respect yet.

My 2000 4runner is the Silver Schooner and the wifes GX460 is the Black Pearl. We even named my in laws trucks, the Tundra is The Root Beer Express and the mother in laws GX460 is the Merlot Mynx.

96 Stellar Blue Limited. Her name is Montana. Named for a trip to Glacier National Park I want to take my lady on. We also just call her "The Runner" as I'm sure many people do as well.

It all stated with the idea of my tag which I decided to be ( my3gtoy ) going along with that monicker and after 3000 miles, I realized how much of a beast I have, especially with the 5 speed and 4wd. I saw myself drive with ease in heavy snow while other self proclaimed able vehicles struggled. The stance and the capabilities got me to thinking of my early 90s childhood and the some of the toys I use to have. Then it hit me, this is like a life sized daily driver Tonka. Rough and rugged but built for roads as well as off-roading. So I took to calling it my toy beast, or T.B. For short. Its so much the trucks name that my wife and I will take as if its my best friend in the world. :high5:

I sometimes refer to her by her proper name, "The Sciencemobile." Usually the wife and I just call it the 4runner. It took me over a year to stop calling it "the Jeep", old habits die hard.
