Have you noticed that this 4Runner forum is DIFFERENT than most car forums?

If I say how it's different, then it may skew your response, so I just ask the question above to see how many people have noticed what I've noticed that is very different about this forum from most automotive forums.

There certainly is not as much spam as the FJ Cruiser forum.

I think the people on the forum are less critical and more respectful of other members.

Thanks for the info, but that was more aiming at the how part of the OP's question as to what makes it different.

If it was an Autoguide forum, you wouldn't have to ask. It's not that I think Autoguide is necessarily bad, they just are not shy about plastering their stamp all over things.

This forum is rare in that it has an Automotive subject and hasn't been bought out by Autoguide yet. They really scoop them up left and right. Getting bought out can be good or bad depending on the forum. In some cases it might save an otherwise awesome forum suffering neglect on the admin side from dying out due to the light bill not getting paid. In others it might ruin the whole mood and do away with the participation, activities, and camaraderie of an active supporting base who have the freedom to make it more than just web hosting.
 
I moderate on other forums and this one is definitely unique, a lot less spam and bots, and a lot less e-fighting in general, I love this forum
 
I think people are more personable and respectful here. I have been on other forums and have seen really smartass replies when someone generally needed help or an answer.
 
I don't think I've belonged to a forum with this many members. I'm pretty amazed at the sheer number of 4R owners who are on here...

Is it that this forum seems to allow people who have been banned from the forum – to come back again with a new name?

Oh wait, maybe it's the fact that new accounts have to post a certain number of replies before they can start their own thread – so they first go and reply to about 20 threads in 30 minutes to artificially inflate their post number to skirt the system?

Or is it both?

It's a good forum over all I like it I also agree on the lack of fighting. Great technical information.

I was active on a Chevy Colorado forum for years when I had that Pile of junk. we had a lot more meets including what we called super meets across the country in different locations. people would come from coast to coast to these meets. They were a lot of good clean fun. At one point my truck was having a ton of issues and I had just had a tumor removed from my neck so I wasn't where I could do much with it. I was living in West Texas at the time 2 guys from D/FW and another from Iowa decided to drive to my town get a room for the weekend and fix my truck in my driveway and never asked for thing. I just got a PM asking if it was ok for a group of guys to come work on my truck.

One of those guys I still keep in touch with. When I go to Dallas for work we go to dinner. I also keep in touch with a few others. my Colorado has been gone 6 years and I have been off the forum for about 4 years. Another guy who lives here local will even drop in at my work from time to time with homemade loaves of bread. Good stuff too. I wish this forum had more comradery like that but over all it's a good place.
 
In my experience, which is subjective, people are generally pretty nice, the flame wars are kept to a minimum and douche level is on the lower end of the spectrum.
 
I'm new to this forum as I am a new 4 Runner owner. I've owned two FJ's and loved them both. I really enjoy forums like this and have been a member of the biggest boards for whatever vehicle I seem to be driving at the time. Here's my impressions...

Positives:
-Seems to be well organized
-It's already been mentioned but worth another...Maturity. The forum flaming and blatant a$$hat behavior just isn't happening. That's refreshing.
-Lot's of Stickys and How-Tos make this site a gold mine for anything you might want to do to modify your truck.

Negatives:
-It could be my connection (although not likely) but the entire site appears to be very slow...I see that there is an enormous amount of info and pictures. Threads and pictures take a long time to load up. All the smilies and graphics across the entire site are mere little "x". An indepth archive process might speed things up? Not sure, I'm not an IT.
-I'm one of those frustrated guys that is working through the 15 post minimum before creating new threads; I tend to read and absorb more than I contribute. Makes perfect sense though.

Other than that, I think I'll enjoy the group and my new rig. :hello:
