In reading the various posts on head gasket failures, I often wonder if the type of replacement coolant used makes a difference. Toyota has a specific coolant they recommend...

I've used nothing but the OEM SLLC on more frequent than recommended partial "drain and fills." I recently posted about diagnosing mine and am monitoring the coolant use. http://www.toyota-4runner.org/4th-g...lug-condition;-possible-head-gasket-leak.html

Also, I wanted to vote on this thread but noticed the poll is showing up as "closed". Can this be opened back up?

Oh no, got a 08 listed on the poll, got me starting to have to worry now.

Yeah, me too! But reading the dude's comment, he said the head gasket failed at around 45K, so it really does seem like he just ended up with a lemon.

I'm almost at 60K and the rig's perfectly fine (knock on wood) and from reading many, many previous threads about head gasket failures, it seemed like most were hit with head gaskets anytime between 100K-200K, as well as 03-05 models

having two v6 4th gens in the house, I gotta be honest when I say I'm not sweating the head gasket thing. if it happens, it happens and I'll fix it or pay to have someone else fix it knowing that when it's done the truck will last another 100-200K miles. with no payments, 3-4K for headgasket job ever 5-8 years (depending on how many miles you drive) is cheap in my book... would it be nice if it lasted the life of the truck? sure, absolutely, but in the big picture if I have to sock away $40/month for a rainy day when the head gasket goes to have it replaced, so be it. It sure as hell beats a 300-600/mon new vehicle payment.

Yea, most previous post on this problem has been on the pre 06, change of design of gasket after that.

Should have put LOL, HAHA, or something with that statement, as I'm not really worried about it, if it happens, it happens and doubt it will. 100K myself. no signs of ANY problem period.
