Header question

OBX doesn't have a reputation for the highest quality products. Usually thinner lower quality materials etc.

If the install in the 4runner was easier I would say try them out, but this isn't a 90's Honda here, if they do crack you will have some work ahead of you to pull them for welding. Not worth it in my book.

Well that sucks haha. so trd and maybe downey are the only options really?

I've not used either personally, I just have experience welding up the OBX (and similar) turbo manifolds when thats all the kiddies could afford. Headers usually aren't under as much stress as the turbo manifolds are, but like I said for the length of the install on the 4runner I wouldn't risk a cheap product.

I've never heard anything great about the OBX headers either. Stick with the TRD or Downey's if you really want to add a set.

I heard Downey went out of business. Doug Thorley makes headers for our 3.4L engine. They are pretty reputable.

I am running the OBX headers on my Truck. I could have afforded the TRD or Doug Thorney but went with the OBX becausethe inlet Tubing was larger than the TRD and the quality is great for these headers. They may be the minutest amount "thinner" than TRD but not enought to worry about cracking them. They are holding up great ;)

I purchased the OBX headers and I could of def. afforded the Doug thorleys or the TRD but I took a chance with OBX and Travoulous said they are slightly thinner than TRD, but if your not running a SC then I wouldnt waste money on getting headers all together. I recommend getting some kind of rtv to make a better gasket for the OBX as well just cause they arent the best gaskets.

Matt, did you put the Borla muffler on? How does your system sound? I'm curious because I put the TRD system which has the resonator in it.

Travolous, I havent yet put the exhaust on yet or the headers I have been waiting for my friend to get his lift installed at his house so we can take the engine and tranny out to make the install a lil easier along with some other mods i plan on doing but as soon as I get it all put on I will def do a sound clip and a build thread.

I had OBX headers on my last subaru before I swapped it. They are definitely a "bargain" product, but they do there job and are going to flow better than stock

I was just going to comment on this as well, Some of the subie guys use them as well as OBX's CBE, and suspension products.
