well, thought i would update this thread. Just some random thoughts.
I've had my truck running for about 4 weeks now, maybe 500 miles; the coolant is staying where is supposed to now. what really surprised me is that the truck started like nothing had happened... and then set a code. i let the cam position sensor wire fall down behind the fan pulley bracket and it cut the wire in half. Other than the $$$, it was easy to fix.
after it ran for a few minutes it started smoking out the exhaust like crazy. it took about 30 minutes before it quit. i think when i did the coolant system pressure test, it just filled the exhaust with coolant. and worse of all, it killed the wide-band O2 sensor for the AFR meter.... which i'm not having any luck getting replaced (I mean buying just a new sensor).
the last remaining issue is that it won't rev past a 10%-20% open throttle. it's also a supercharged motor. I think the catalytic converter is plugged and won't flow the air. anyone know if coolant in the CC is bad?
as for cost; since i had double machine shop cost (origianal + new head) and i had to buy a junk yard head, that was about $500. I sent my injectors to get cleaned $160, about $600 in parts (radiator, hoses, gaskets, head bolts, valve seals, SC rebuild kit, belts, liquids, assembly lube, exhaust bolts).
the hardest part, IMO, was getting the exhaust manifold off/on.
Getting the timing belt back on wasn't as hard, just time consuming figuring out where to start and keeping all the markers in place. finding out that the tensioner has a hole to pin it down was so valuable.
