I took the leap and bought 2 sets too...great price at 120.00 shipped.

Decided to go with 6000k for both low and fog, we'll see what it looks like on my 2005 SE.

How is install? Is a hid conversion pretty "plug and play"? I haven't been able to look at install since I'm only on my blackberry.

I think I might only do my lows for now and save the fogs for later. I have my hellas if I need more fog light :D

 
I remember on my 97 T4R the install for this most part was plug n play.


I do remember having to rearrange the prong arrangement on my factory harness to fit the kit, but once I figured that out with a knowledgeable electrical friend and a multimeter it was easy!
 
Mine took about 30-45 minutes to install, but most of that was just zip tying all of the wires so that it was a clean install.
 
Yeah It is very easy. Plug and play indeed. Like HB 4x4 said, the zip ties were the most time consuming. They come with double sided tape which helps alot.
 
I think most kits come with some zip ties. Mine did. Go to home depot and buy a pack of them though, because you will need 2-3 times as many as they provide. I keep assorted sizes in my tool bag in the back at all times anyways.
 
For the people that bought off of the retrosolutions site. Did you get the slim models or the regular ones? How big is the difference from the 4300k to the 6000k. I like the look of the 6000 but i still want good light, maybe the 5000 then, since its in between? lol
 
Also, should i go with 35w or 55w and if i go with the 55w do i need to get that thicker wiring harness i've been reading about in other places...lol
 
Interested in learning more about what you have read about "thicker" wire harness? Are the stocks getting to hot? Or are they just not large enough to pass the current causing premature wear?
 
Im running 55watt 4300k retro-solutions hid on stock wires, been running great and no problems. Have this on my lows on the 07,so you should be fine. I been running this set since i bought my truck on 07 of christmas.

I would not do HID kit in stock 03-05 housing, that is a disaster, its not safe and you not going to see much improvement since most of the light will be going in a stratosphere. At least 06-08 fellas have halogen projector in a headlights so the output is definatelly improvement over halogen bulbs but NOWHERE near a complete retro fit with a proper HID projectors. You probably all seen F-150s and others driving around with HID kit in reflector housing, nothing but huge glare which looks disgusting in most cases, plus you probably going to get pulled over soon or later (especially with 8000K or higher) and given a ticket.
Do a full retro-fit, its not that hard. I do a write-up this weekend. Or get it done somwhere else, lots of retrofitters in US and they do nice job.
 
And I would strongly suggest to others use relay wiring harness instead of plugging kit into stock wiring. HIDs uses 20,000 volts (thats what igniters are for) to fire up, so they do draw some current on a start-up, after about 30-40 sec its down to 85 volt

See the difference, on first you get literraly shot in the eyes. That how incoming traffic see you on a road, when you behind a wheel you dont see that, you think you cool.

In regards of wiring harness there is plenty on e-bay, I got mine as well as TSX projectors and Phillips 85122+ bulbs from The Retrofit Source. I find it a good quality relay harness. It draws power directly from battery and it cost only $25. I seen cheaper than that but the one I bought from DDM for $20 was garbage.
