Heads Up! Front Bumper Bolts

Just a heads up. Saw this while i was removing my washer fluid reservoir. Which btw is the 5L size (vs the 2.5L) w rear wiper motor as well.

This pic shows one bumper bracket bolt super loose and another missing. Might want to check yours too!

I just replaced my OEM bumper with an aftermarket TJM. Some of the original bolts were not very tight. I was shocked to find that the entire original 97 bumper and lower [plastic] valence together weighed a grand total of 19.8 pounds! IMO, truly worthless as protection.

well, i totaled my first 4runner. hadnt even made the first pmt. t-boned a truck making a left turn blindly. all i can say is everything that should have crushed, did, and the cab remained safe.

...i immediately went out and bought my '98 new. i was sold on its safety. plus i think painted bumpers are plain dumb but such is the way it is these days.

It's one of the reasons I went back to frame on chassis vehicles. I was in a wreck in a 1991 camry which did its job but I was physically too big for the ride.

Frames make a big difference. While unibody is designed well to crush around the passengers. I like the Frame options.

Yep one of the best reasons for an aftermarket bumper (other than tire and travel clearance, approach angle and Mall Points) is getting a little bit of front end protection for an animal or Uber-Eats strike. The Fat-Lip on my 2000 LTD was useless, too. Now I couldn't care less what Dasher backs into me, as they will be getting a little tattoo from the d-ring hoops on my bumper. :evil:
