Hella 4000 Compact - HID Conversion Question

Anyone do HID conversion with the 4000 compacts? Does it make sense to get pencils or driving reflectors for the conversion.

I am thinking they are about the same size as 500s but with the metal housing people run 75W HIDs as apposed to 55W.

This write-up is for the regular size 4000's but the design is very similar Hella 4000 HID Conversion | race-deZert You don't have to drill the housings, just take the HID bulbs' electrical connectors apart and run the wires through the original openings like this http://www.toyota-4runner.org/3rd-g...ealed-hid-factory-fog-lights.html#post1437681

Beam-wise,I'd go with driving reflectors. Pencils may reach farther but the pattern is narrow. Auxillary Lamp Beams - RallyLights.com

EDIT: started reading your build thread, guess you already know about taking apart those HID bulb terminals :)

Thanks, yea I have modified my 500s, but the halogen pattern doesnt really translate on those at all. I can see far down the road, but 90 degrees out the drivers window. I noticed how they lit up power poles in a field.

Looking at the 4000C again, the reflectors are different. Some have claimed the 4000 full size reflectors are the same HID to Halogen, but that seams pretty unlikely.

it has a similar reach as the full size 4000, not nearly as full

I also came across these, FF200s. They are a bit smaller than the compacts and hella 500s. They have a goofy mount, but clearly the HID reflector is different. The advantage is its mount is near the face, better for bumper mounting.
