Hella 500, or any other driving lights for that matter...

Gentlemen I am looking to buy some driving lights to improve night time driving. I have read about the Hella 500 and I am currently thinking about purchasing them. My question is for those of you that have them, do they blind oncoming traffic at night and do you get flashed a lot?

If that is the case, could you recommend some driving lights that would not cause this?

i have driven with them on before by accident and not been flashed, however they may blind oncoming traffic no matter which ones you buy, and are actually illegal to use on road along with your headlights. I believe if you use them as headlights then you will be ok though.

My driving lights blind oncoming traffic, but I have them aimed higher like the high beams. You would have to have them aimed pretty low not to get flashed IMO. The Hella 500's are far from a pencil beam, they have a pretty large beam around 100 yards + out from them. I mounted my switch in the blanks by the armrest so I can switch them off quickly and easily when I meet oncoming traffic.

Some years ago I owned a "92" Volvo 960 sedan "I called it the flying brick"and you could not see more than 10 ft in front of you with the stock lights on. I decided to install some Hella 500 or 550's I can't recall the exact set I had but I would have to say this was one of the biggest car improvements I ever made.

I would have a passenger in the car at night and "shock" them with the improvment by switching them on and off.

A lot of the cars/trucks I see driving at night have two pairs of lights on. The main ones and then what appears to be foglights, but they are not yellow, they are white so I was just wondering.
