Hello From Northern Ontario (3rd Gen)

Hello T4R.org,

This forum was a great tool in helping me decide to purchase my first 4runner. I picked up a 1999 SR5 3.4L V6 with a 5spd manual. It's got about 125,000miles (201,000km)... I'm Canadian eh! No lift and sitting on BFG 285/75 R16 (Yes, they rub). No locker, but I was told it has an LSD (we will see).

Just brought it home today, and so far, I am falling in love with it. I was a former XJ Cherokee driver, then Focus, now back to 4x4. Decided I would get what I always wanted and picked up the T4R. The ride is awesome, I finally have a sunroof, and I just love the feel and layout of it.

It will require some TLC and a few repairs. It's been sitting for over a year, so some bushing are rotten and it's developed a small hole in the rocker panel. Otherwise, it's been undercoated, so the floor is mint, and there is minimal rust elsewhere. Motor seems to purr nicely.

I have already run in to a few issues:
1. Check engine light came on while driving home (just an O2 sensor I hope)
2. Spent 3.5 hours fixing the rear window after it fell off the rotten/rusty tracks. Thats a story for another day with pics to follow.

I have high hopes for this little 4runner, and I will start a build thread soon to show what I have been doing. For now, I just want to make sure it's gonna run well for a few years, then I'll get in to the fun stuff.

So.... Here are some pics of my new to me 4runner. I wanted to clean it up a little first.










Found out my check engine light was a rear O2 sensor. Be fixing that very soon. Also may have an oil leak. Took of the skid plates and parked it on a tarp to try and locate it.

Also, had some jitters at take off when warm. Not sure if issue with truck or me. I might just be bogging.

Anyhow, enjoy the pics.

You cleaned her up really nice man! As for your check engine light, find out what the code is. If it's a cylinder misfire, it MAY be a faulty injector, which could very well be the issue with the bogging.

Either way, if it's the injector, I can definitely help you with the job, as I did mine 5 times over the winter this year! lol!

BTW, hope you don't mind, but I thought I'd add this pic to your build thread!

Thanks for posting the pic. Looks awesome.

Yup, the code turned out to be an O2 sensor. Will be fixing it soon. As for the bogging, it's not come back too bad yet. I think it was mostly my driving style. We will see if it comes up again. Fingers crossed it doesn't.

It was really great to meet you, and thanks for offering to help out!!! If I decide to do my injectors any time soon, you will be the first to know!! :lol:
