HELP! 06 Sport 4WD Stuck in 4 Low

Too late (i.e., after I purchased and found this forum), I found a thread where someone described the tests to put the 2/4HI/4Lo system through to see if everything worked as it should (intended as pre-purchase advice). Well, I tried it this evening after driving flawlessly in 2 and 4Hi the last two weeks and now the thing is stuck in 4Lo. It doesn't say it is in 4Lo on any dash indicators (it did when the switch was in the 4Lo position), but it most definitely is.

Is there a trick, like pulling a fuse or something since it is electronically controlled, that can get me back out of 4Lo so that I can at least drive it until I can get it fixed? I need to drive it tomorrow about 45 miles and don't want to have to do it in 4Lo.

I have not had this problem on the 4Runner, on other 4x4 it has happened to me.

If if you cycled 4 low on hard pavement you might have bound the gears a little.

Block your tires, leave in neutral, jack up a front wheel, see if it the bind clears.

Or roll out onto some loose gravel and then try cycling it.

I would try lifting a front wheel up first. One should do it, you can try both. Takes all of 10 minutes.

I tried both of these to no avail. The interesting thing is, there are no lights or icons indicating it is in 4LO. When I do try to go from 4Hi to 4Lo, in neutral and with the brake on, I get a flashing 4LO light and then when I shift into R or D a beeping starts along with the flashing 4LO light. The beeping stops when I put the switch back to 4Hi or 2Hi, but the 4Lo remains engaged, again without any dash indicators on. When I go through the 4Hi position, all appropriate lights show like it is in 4Hi, but it is still in 4LO.

This sounds like what happened to [MENTION=57196]needsmoresalt[/MENTION] a while back. I think he needed a new transmission because of it.
